Maybe I'm just stupid, but say I am heading east. The indicator in the top right of my screen is showing north pointing to the right. this would indicate to me that I am heading west. It seems that the arrow should be indicating horth pointing to the left, not the right.

The indicator is pointing in the direction YOU are traveling. EAST. EAST is at 3:00 (right) on a compass dial. Think of it as reading the letter E.
I really appreciate your replys and help but I think we may be talking apples and oranges here. I am not referring to the arrow that show me (the motorcyle). I am referring to the indicater arrow in the top right of the screen that indicates which way is north. It does rotate to indicate north and south correctly but if I am traveling east or west it is backwards. Another words if I am traveling west, I would expect the arrow to be pointing to the right to indicate north is to the right. It doesn't, it points to the left which indicates that I am traveling east.

So it sounds like you have your NAV set to direction of travel "up" as opposed to north "up". That's the way I have mine set as well. You're saying that the compass indicator on the top right of the screen is indicating south instead of north? If you're heading east, that indicator should be pointing to the left and down if going south. I'll look at mine tonight..I haven't really paid attention to that.

I'll give OTW a break, if you have the NAV set to direction up, NOT north up the top of the circle (compass) that you are describing (in the upper right hand corner of the screen) is north, the bottom is south, to the right (3:00) is east and to the left (9:00) is west. If you are traveling north, the arrow is pointing up at 12:00, if you are traveling east the arrow is pointing right to 3:00, if you are travelling south the arrow is pointing down to 6:00 and if you are traveling west the arrow points to the left, 9:00. Is that clear?

IUOE ROB and I are saying the same thing.
It's a common point of confusion. With direction of travel set to up, the "compass" in the corner is NOT a compass but a heading indicator. It will point as we have both described - YOUR direction of travel - not north.

Heading indicator...that makes sense now. I'm a damn pilot and I didn't even figure that out! I actually hadn't even paid attention to it since I only used my NAV for the first time this past weekend.
