CKobra, Thanks for the reply. I'll be trying your approach the next time I go shopping for a new bike, hoping to hold out until this September if I can. I never bought a bike from either Danbury or Gengras but had some dealings at Brothers (bought a 96 flstn new and went back to by a ultra with a sidecar in 2000) They wanted me to sign for the bike without giving me a price. 
I ended buying it in Ellington for msrp. In September of 2012 I bought an ultra, and got it $3000 under msrp. I bought it at Yankee, they had a fair number of 12's on the floor and brand new 13"s on the floor as well. Ellington was only 500 off msrp. for the same exact bike. Anyway thanks for the advice and good luck with your new bike. Also, maybe your buddy can help you out with some of your mods with all the money you saved him!

I have a problem. I can't leave anything stock. I'm going to use as much restraint as possible, and try not to play with the motor for the first 2 years until the warranty is up, but we'll see if I can actually hold out.
I'll definitely be blacking out all the chrome asap. I'll use this as my build thread, so feel free to stay tuned.
With the kind of horsepower your accustomed to that motor wont be stock for very long !

I was initially going to purchase a 2013 Road Glide in Denim Black with the red pin stripe and a bunch of blacked out parts from a friend, only had 920 miles on it, but he wanted a firm $20k. I couldn't pass up getting a brand new 2014 with all the improvements and changes for only $1,999 more out the door... still love the look of the Road Glide though.... maybe when HD comes out with a new one I'll just swap fairings?

2014 Street Glide Special
I used the HD dealer locator to identofy the 7 dealerships closest to my house, then sent an email to each explaining exactly what I was looking for, and explaining that I was lookjng for a great deal AND to build a relationship with a dealership for parts and service. The next day I followed up with a phone call to each dealership and got a POP at each. I again explained what I wanted and let them know I wasn't afraid to travel for for the best deal. Some dealerships immediately gave me their very high bottom line and said they don't deal over the phone etc. These dealers got cut. Then I went back and forth between the remaining dealerships bouncing the offers back and forth. A couple more dealers told told me they couldn't go any lower so they got cut. The next day, down to 3 dealers again going back and forth until it came down to 2 with nearly identical offers. Danbury beat the final $ offer of Gengras, and matched their 1000 Mile Service Free, and 10% of clothing and accessories for 1 year. The deal was so good that a buddy of mine pulled his $500 deposit on a regular 2014 Street Glide at Brother HD (who told him not to tell anyone about the deal he got because it was supposedly so good), and bought a Street Glide Special with me for only $300 more! The fact that it was a 2 bike deal certainly helped secure the low OTD $.

Enjoy. I had a similar situation, I have a 2011 M109R love the bike. Wait for it...BUT, I need more room. My wife enjoyed riding with me so I bought the 2014 SGS. Now I am selling the 9 because I just don't see me riding both bikes enough. I prefer the SGS. Enjoy the modding too.

Welcome to the club! HD stands for Hundred Dollars! No matter what you do, it will cost you a hundred dollars or more. You buy the bike as a blank canvas and begin to create your own masterpiece! LOL!
By the way, I have kept all my bikes bought since the 1997 Wide Glide. Can't part with them after all the modifications. I do find time to ride every one! Helps hold down the mileage per bike, LOL!
