bro that's funny right there,,,,,, and you aren't even close to the first person to go thru that. Some have argued "whats the point of a run button?" only reason I ever use it is to coast to a stop but that's kinda dumb reason really............ I guess I don't really see the point unless you are trying to keep the radio on when you stop somewhere uninterrupted? but all bikes bee nthat way for years? not sure about that one? I mean you car doesn't have it?

I hit it all the time to. I also find myself fiddling with it a lot,,,,,,,,,, kinda wish it was a button like on a car but "it is what it is" so whatever.

I'm kinda confused why they use trip "A" and "B" on cars and bikes? I don't use it for anything except checking fuel mileage once in a while so not sure why you would need 2 trips?????????????? ,,,,,

I hit it occasionally myself. I'll get used to it.

I use trip A for refuel, and trip B for total daily mileage.

I reset trip "A" when I fill the tank so I can check mileage once in a while, but can see using trip "B" to tally total miles on a trip.

Good question, "What IS the point of a run button"? Maybe a new thread...

The button pops up to allow you to slide off the flat plastic switch. This is so you can separate the switch housing for removal. I put new hand grips on my bike, and for the life of me I couldn't slide the flat plastic switch off in either direction. An hour later, I could just split the switch housing just enough to get the grip on.

Back in the 60's the run button was a round button was actually called the kill switch on the right side of the handle bar. I think i had a key to turn on, but not leave in the magneto. When you stopped and wanted to shut off the bike you hit the "kill switch/button."

I remember a police officer thought my sportster was too loud so he wanted me to start it so he could listen a give me a summons, (of course it was too loud i was running straight pipes). So as i kicked the starter i held the kill button down and told him i'd been having trouble starting it but generally if i waited about 45 minutes to an hour i think i could start it. he left, i waited for a little while, started it and left. Thanks to the kill switch/button.

Now that's a good story, maybe that's what it's there for!

If you've ever ridden (and fallen off) a dirt bike, you'd know what the "kill" switch is for!

It's not the "run" function it's up there for but rather the "kill" function. To quickly kill the engine should you need to (fall, broken clutch cable, stuck throttle, etc) while being able to keep both hands on the bars if necessary. It's in the same standard position on every bike (unlike the key ignition switch) so it "should" be instinctive in its use.

heated grips and no finger gloves will do the trick.
