I like the paper weight cam 255 in my 2013 limited with RC 4in exhaust and SE air cleaner and PC5
Rumor has it the 255's are the best touring cams ever made (by HD) for smooth touring and weighted down bikes. At least that's what my research has led me to believe!
While I do know they changed the cams in the 2014 103's and I have already added a Stage 1 setup I don't think I am getting any huge gains... I know that the dealer just used a "standard map" for my setup and they suggested a dyno tune to get the best gains. I just want to do all I am going to do to the motor for a while before I drop 400.00 on a dyno tune...
I got a deal on a 103 kit to change my 96 to 103 and since i had some fins chipped I got the kit for 200. Then i got the billet cam plate and 255 cams and since I saved money on the kit. I went ahead and bought the se cnc pro port heads. Had the bike dyno tuned the final tune was 99.75 hp and 113 ftlbs torque. I really like the 255 cam in my street glide. On a touring bike I think they are perfect I have a couple of buddies who have stock street glides they road my bike and now are saving up to do the same thing I did. Now I do think there are better cams for my wideglide I am researching a build for it next winter but its a hot rod bike something that is light and just a short trip bike for me. Most of the people I talked too that actually had the 255 cams really liked them. The ones that didnt always said they didnt spend the money on a dyno tune. Then most of the others that say "there better cams out there" usually never even tried them. I do believe the heads really helped mine stretch the run out. Good luck on what ever you decide.

I'm sure you like them just fine. I'm sure your like for them for them has to do with you trying other options and choosing the 255's over others? Or is your reply the typical I choose them now I'm going to defend them?

Research on this forum about Harley performance will prove fruitless. So I hope you've researched other Harley performance specific forums.
The issues and limitations of the 255's are well documented. Research will prove that.
For what it's worth, I had just had my 14 SGS Dyno tuned with just Stage 1 (V&H X-pipe, V&H HO slip-ons and air cleaner) and it turned out 113 tq and 87 hp.
On an otherwise stock bike, I thought that was pretty darn good. In the end it was very close to my Dad's 12 CVO SG with similar mods.
Opinions on Cams are like A holes, everyone has one. The truth be told, almost everyone
puts to big of a cam in their engines for the type of riding they do on a normal bases. Yes
I know we all want Bikes that do their best, run stronger then their buddies Bike. Now days
someone always comes up against another Bike that's faster then theirs. Most of the
rice burners and BMW's can out run a lot of Harleys that have been pumped up, when have you
seen a Harley Bagger run a quarter mile in the low 11's right out of the show room.
We all love our Harleys, that is why we and a lot of other people buy them.
My BMW buddy tells me how well engineered his German Bike is, and I say if
German engineering is so great how did we win World War II. Sorry about the rant guys. Cams
are only one part that makes an engine make horse power there is a lot more to it. It's the
combination of all the parts that pumps the fuel and air in and out of the engine.
Riding below 2000 can be damaging to the bottom end of your twin cam engine. Get those rpms up!
Not only that, but even the stock cams aren't designed to make power below 2000 rpm. That is why the bike feels sluggish.
A stage 1 HO 103 will make very similar power to the 204 cammed 103. It's not worth the money spent for power gained. Harley did pretty well with this new cam in the HO 103
The 255's are junk cams. Better off as paper weights
The 2013 & earlier factory cams are the paper weights. The 255 cams do what they are made to do, low end, mid range torque. Nothing more, nothing less.
