I use a strap wrench for my filter removal but If you don't have time to go buy a filter wrench get a long screwdriver and drive it through the side of the filter. You will be able to break the filter loose. You might have to do a couple of times before you are able to spin the filter by hand. It's not pretty but it will do the trick in a pinch.
I so would have done that yesterday if I knew that was an option.
^^ I agree ^^ But, you don't need to change the oil at 360 miles. The book says at 1000.
A lot of manuals (not HD) say the spark plugs don't need to be changed for 100,000 miles. A lot of manuals say the oil (not HD) doesn't need to be changed for 10K - 15K miles. Some manufacturers are now making vehicles that don't even have a tranny dip stick or a tranny drain plug or a way to drain and fill the tranny. That's not smart.
I payed big bucks for this machine. The first oil change is so important. I read the manual. I also talked to a few engine builders (of whom I am not one) I know and they laughed and shook their heads at the first oil change in 1000 miles. They all said do not wait that long for the first oil change. They said much damage could be done to the engine, a new engine, if it ran 1000 miles before the first oil change. One ol' boy said to change the oil after 50 miles. Another said 200. The last one said way before 500. So you get different opinions but none of them said to wait 1000 miles. Can you find some one to say wait 1000 miles? Sure... an HD mechanic who gets paid to work on your motor.
Before you screw the new one on be sure to put a thin film of oil on the rubber gasket. Then, finger tip tighten the filter in its place until the gasket touches. Continue to HAND TIGHTEN about another half to 3/4 of a turn. This should be plenty tight for no leaks, and will be much easier to remove for the next oil change.
The oil in your bike is not the "first" oil to go through the engine.
EVERY engine they make gets run on the bench before it is ever installed in a motorcycle.
The engine gets it's break in and heat cycles WAY before it sees a frame.
The original break-in oil is gone long before the bike ever gets gas in the tank.
Those builders that "shake their heads" should really hop on their scoots and do some factory tours, so they can see what they are shaking their heads about....
