Went to change the fluids last night. All went well until I came to the filter removal. I couldn't get the dad gum thing off. I bought one of those things that look like a giant socket. It just spun. I couldn't get my filter wrench around the filter because of two hoses that attach just above the filter. It looked like if I would have removed those two hoses I could have gotten my filter wrench in there but I don't know what those hoses did. They look like they go the oil cooler. But I was apprehensive so I didn't touch anything. I only have 360 miles on the engine so hopefully I can wait a bit more but I wanted to get that first dirty oil out. The filter is on there real tight. Must have gotten a gorilla to torque that thing down. Was wondering if that filter wrench HD sells with the cut out is worth the money. What do y'all do to get that filter off the first time? Or do y'all pay the big bucks to let the stealer do it? And is it OK to remove those two hoses to get to the filter?
Thanks to all

I use a strap wrench for my filter removal but If you don't have time to go buy a filter wrench get a long screwdriver and drive it through the side of the filter. You will be able to break the filter loose. You might have to do a couple of times before you are able to spin the filter by hand. It's not pretty but it will do the trick in a pinch.
