EITMS On When Cold

I have an interesting issue with the EITMS. When the bike is cold in my garage and idling for about one minute, it will go into EITM, I thought that this was used solely to cool down the rear cylinder when it was hot for passenger comfort. Seems strange it would activate so quickly when the bike is not even up to operating temperature. Has anyone else seen this anomoly?

Yep. This time of the year in Texas means temp management kicks in right after you start the bike. I usually just tap the throttle a bit until she's nice and warmed up.

Thanks for the replies, I thought something was wrong with the bike and wanted to verify before wasting my time taking to dealer and such.

Yup. Bad thing is the owner manual description of how it works is wrong. Correct info was released to dealers in Service Bulletin M-1351.

Getting tired of pulling up at every traffic light and EITMS kicks in making my nice Harley sound like $hiT. I'm thinking of just turning EITMS off. And monitoring the engine temp using my Powervision, Does anyone know at what temperature the engine is considered running dangerously hot?

That is correct. But it isn't suppose to activate until it's been running for four minutes.

I agree it sounds like crap with a full exhaust system and no cat but the heat cooking my nuts at stop lights in Texas is worse than the sound. I tried running it off but you can really feel the difference with it on, or there was one heck of a placebo effect...lol
