The girlfriend and I went for a leisurely ride on July 4th... right around 12:30am on July 5th we were traveling down I635 with the cruise set at 65mph. I saw a shadowy figure darting out right in front of me from the median. And right as I asked myself "is that a dog?" I t-boned a stray rottweiler. The bars jerked to the right and we immediately went down. I saw a shower of sparks as my Street Glide slid down the highway, using the crash bar as a pivot. The bike was spinning and finally came to rest against the concrete median barrier. The bike slid about 100 feet, I slid about 60 feet and my GF rolled about 40 feet. I shot up and raced back to her, adrenaline was pumping so I didn't feel my injuries. She was in utter shock and was sitting up in the fast lane of the interstate, terrified and not moving. She had no idea what had happened. I picked her up and dragged her to the shoulder because other cars were coming up on us. I was wearing my jacket and gloves thank god...she was in a hoodie. I have a dislocated shoulder, sprained ankle, and a tiny bit of rash. Unfortunately, she has a broken collar bone, sever rash to her right hand, and a puncture wound to her knee from debris jabbing her on the shoulder. I was treated and released from hospital, she was admitted and won't get out until Monday at the earliest. Not sure on the damage estimate on the bike..but she's banged up pretty good with only 2500 miles on her. Not a fun night.
Looks like you fared better than the dog, I'm curious about that jacket since I've been looking at a mesh jacket - did that burn clear through and allow rash in those spots?

You can't see from the pic, but during impact, my left elbow armor rotated around to under my forearm and caused my elbow to take the slide. At that point the jacket DID burn straight through and cause rash to my left elbow. The rash i have on my right forearm (shown in jacket pic) i believe is from the handlebars snapping to the right and the immediate friction caused the burn...not the pavement. The right shoulder, which was the initial impact, was destroyed all the way down to where the armor showed through.
I honestly expected better results from this Alpinestars jacket...but it would have been MUCH MUCH worse had I not been wearing the jacket.
Hope you get better fast.
Sorry to read of the accident.
Glad you had a helmet because you put that against the highway.
I'm a believer of choice but my choice is to wear a helmet, chaps, gloves and a leather jacket.
I hate stories like this. There was nothing you could have done and nobody to blame to at least justify why the accident happened. We all have this as a possibility and I try to be careful on every ride but this makes it evident sometimes you have no control of your fate. I was wearing my flow through jacket with armor just yesterday and was thinking? What would this protect if I needed it. Rapid healing to you and your gal.

Hate loose dogs. Same issue here in DFW,TX. At least both of you will live to see the sun rise. May I suggest adding the saddle bag guards ? When I bought the SG in May, they were one of the first things I added along with LED lighting.
