answer me this........installed some PIAA LED fog lights on my bike, mostly because I don't feel like paying the insane H-D prices, anyway...they are wired w/ a relay and a switch. Harness for lights and switch are run in cable tray under tank, relay is under seat. Main wires are connected to battery, switched 12v is coming from red/yellow wire going to rear light harness...problem is when you turn the fog lights on, you lose radio reception, not right away, but after 5 seconds or so, reception fades and you get static. Turn lights off, radio reception immediately returns.
you might have to with lower watt bulbs. I know that moto lights running lights caused interference with radio so had to switch to 35 watt bulbs I think??? Either 75w to 50 or 50w to 35 can't remember which, but when changed interference went away

Mine are 8w LED........
I wonder if the fact that the harnesses are not shielded has anything to do with it? Wouldn't think so, because none of the other wires in that tray are shielded......Canbus???

Have you tried putting a volt meter on the battery with the bike running and watching it when you flip your light switch? A voltage drop could mean problems with your relay and that COULD show itself in the radio first.
If you've got an amp meter, I'd also put it in line with your lights and make sure you're not exceeding the charging system's abilities.
DPmerrill, where you at in Utah? I'm in Cedar City.
Sorry to hyjack...
I'm a few hundred miles north in Springville. I was actually going to try to get down that way this weekend to ride Capital Reef and Escalante if the weather allows. It looks like you've timed it about right!

What in the heck could be causing this???
Red/yellow wire is connected to the coil of the P&A relay which powers radio fuse. When You power the fog lights You brown out the relay that runs the radio. If it has it's own switch and relay, why not connect to 20A P&A fuse R/BE wire.

Yep, I see what you mean......however, the switch for the fog lights is solid state and needs switched power, otherwise, power would be available all the time, fog lights could be left on w/ignition switch turned off...dead battery.
What wire do you suggest?
Update: apparently, it's not going to mater what wire I connect to.....I hooked switch wire to battery, same problem. Then I figured that the relay might be causing the problem, so I removed relay from socket, jumped around terminals, relay eliminated, switch eliminated, still have same problem...looks like lights/harness are the problem, but damned if I know how.......any ideas, suggestions?

Try the V/BE wire that comes off the P&A relay. When the R/Y wire powers the relay then Your lights will work.P&A fuse is 20A,so should be able to handle new load.
