I have a 2014 Limited, that I think ABS is not working on. I had to do an emergency stop today on the interstate, so basically 65 to 0 as fast as I could stop, as the car in front of me slammed on his brakes. I had a two second buffer, so had plenty of time to stop.
Anyway I slammed on the brakes, and the bike screeched to a stop... literally the tires screeched all the way to a stop... I thought the point of ABS was to stop the tires from locking up.
Once I got off the interstate, I did a test emergency stop, once again, the tires locked and screeched to a stop. My 2012 responded just as I would expect ABS to work, where it would pulse to a stop.
Is this something I should have the dealer look at? I have had the recall work done on my bike.
It did hold a straight line, I just didn't expect the tires to lock up.
It did its job. You stopped in a straight line and were able to maintain control. The tires did NOT lock up. On any normal ABS system, the tires will actually leave black marks on the pavement. They aren't locked, but they are pulsing. It may operate a bit differently than past years, but that would be programming function.

The ABS light acts normal, comes on when I start the bike, and turns off as I take off. Don't know where I would find any other error code. I think I was and am just surprised that it doesn't act like my car or even my 2012 Limited.
So you did a maximum brake stop under control and you think the ABS didn't work? Depending on the road surface all ABS systems cause tire screeching had the tires locked up you would high side or fishtail.
The tire does not have to stop moving for the screeching to start, and to leave black marks. If the tire is moving slower than the bike is going, those things can happen. If you are unsure at all I would have your dealer look at it, because you never want to have brakes you don't trust. You should have felt the pulse in the brakes for sure, but if you slammed them on doing 65 and were upright in a straight line when you stopped, I'd say they most likely did the trick.
My 2014 braking is not notceably pulsing like My 2012,buy I think that is due to linked brakes.I have a Dodge suv and a deer jumped in front of Me and it squealed to a stop.Missed the deer and I wondered if ABS did not work.It does noticeably pulse in rain or snow. Linked brakes may subdue the pulsing effect.Take a ride in the rain and try braking,I would think that pulsing would be noticeable at that time.
