I just traded my 2012 FLHTK for a 2014. Took the wife for her first ride on it this afternoon and immediately got complaints about really excessive "wind noise". I've got to find a solution to that problem ASAP. Turned the intercom completely off so that has nothing to do with it. I'm thinking the shorter stock windshield may be the culprit. Any ideas?
My wife is 5'3". She never complained on my 12 Limited with the stock 12" windshield but after a couple rides on the highway on the 14 she said her head was really getting whipped around by the wind. I replaced the stock 10" windshield with an 11" LRS Ultra and she said that solved the problem. I'm 6' and would get buffeting on my helmet over 60 but after switching to the LRS I don't get any buffeting until 80 unless there is a strong head or crosswind.
The buffeting caused me a lot of concern when I was test riding the bike. My wife noticed it too. As others mentioned, windshield height is key. You can also play around with the adjustable tabs on the sides and possibly in the lower fairings as well. We got used to it and the bike is still all stock at the moment.
Went from a 2012 Ultra to a 2014 Limited, getting the same complaint here. I have on order a Clearview Large with the re-curve (its suppose to be 1" taller and a little wider). I'm 6'2 so i think i will be able to still see over it. I will report back when i get it.
Greg, I bought my 2012 from Gail's also. I had an electrical problem on the bike in Kirbyville, TX and while waiting for repairs, test drove a '14 around Beaumont. Needless to say, I really liked it. Long story short version, Cowboy HD made me a good trade and I brought home the 14. Seems I bought it the day the latest clutch recall came out so hopefully I can get that and the 1K done at the same time. BTW, I live in IOLA, SW of the KC area.
