Default 1000 Mile Service

I bought a 15' Ultra Limited last week and I am quickly approaching 1000 miles. To keep your warranty intact do you have to have the dealer perform the service or can you do it yourself. Always worked on my own stuff and hate to quit now. I'm sure the service will set me back a few hundred bucks. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Lots of folks keep copies of their receipts for oil and filter. If the MOCO ever wanted you to prove you actually did the service you'd have proof you bought the supplies. Keep good records and you will save enough money to buy a good jack or lift after a few services.
If you don't have a service manual, and electrical diagnostic manual you should consider getting them.

Add in the Parts catalog and you will be over the $100 mark for free shipping.
Enjoy the new ride!

Same here...
First 1000 mile service was included with purchase.
If not, I would have done it myself.

By law, they can't void your warranty if you use the consumables that fulfill their requirements.

like safetyman said grab a manual, although I have one I do let the dealer do the first couple of services this way I can get any little issues out of the way, they usually offer a decent deal when you buy the bike for services, the deal I got made it worthwhile to buy them upfront but those are long gone and I do the services myself.

Dealer where I bought the bike did my 1000 mile service. Cost me just over $400. It's not that I can't do it, I just don't really enjoy doing it. It's a bit steep, but I tell myself it's better to let the professionals do it. The guys in that service department have been very good and have always done things right the first time around, so I don't mind letting them do the work. Bolt on stuff (like backrest, saddlebag guard rails, etc.) and some electrical I do myself.

I'll be doing my 1k when I get back from vacation. I asked if they would include it when I bought my RGS but no dice. no biggie, I have a manual, a bike jack, and will have the peace of mind no-one missed tightening or overlooking anything. Get to know your bike better, and let them do any major repairs that warranty would cover.
