Looking at putting hard lowers on my '19 RKS. Can the block off panel (outboard of the adjustable vent) be removed to increase airflow for summer riding?
I have black crash bars, I'm thinking once I put these on, they need to stay on due to paint / powder coat scuffing.
I'd like to be able to remove the block off panel and install twin cooled grilles in their place for summer, vs. removing the entire lower.
When you take the panel off it will expose two screws on the bottom. I had to go to the hardware store to get a couple washer style speed nuts and small head screws to countersink them into their slot. This allowed the new grills to fit flush. Cost was about two bucks. You will want to keep the screws installed because they help to sandwich the grill frame together. I could install the new grills with the existing screws, the grill just fit perfectly flush by countersinking then in using a speed nut as a washer.
the Kuryakyn grills are expensive and kinda cheaply built IMHO. But I got my set off EBay for $25. I think they look awesome and do the job.
