Default Replacement heated grips

I really like the heated aspect but hate the stock grip themselves. I have run iso grips for years but have not seen them in heated. I have found a grip made by Avon that looks good but would like some input before I spend 300.00. Anybody change out their heated grips and what is the best buy. Thanks

You may be able to just change out the rubber grip and not the heating part. If the grips are rubber, you could try rolling it up a bit to see how the heater is designed. If it's just like a coil/wires in like a plastic wrapper, you should be able to carefully remove the grips and slide on new ones.

One of my bikes has heated grips. I was able to very carefully cut the rubber grips off. Then I had to buy TWO sets of grips. I needed TWO throttle side grips since the clutch side was the same size.

Might be worth looking at before buying grips with the heater unit.

I changed the grips on old ultra being big trip, because ya the grips are hard. But now I got heated grips which I really like. I have wondered about some kind of leather slip over for some padding.

Harley makes crappy grips, Very jap.

As previous comments have offered - you have a few off the shelf options in - a few slip-on grip “cover” type solutions, some very nice Leather options, as well as HD branded heated grip replacement sets, with costs ranging widely between those 2 options.

I too have the oem HD rubber-heated grips, and they heat really well, but they don’t offer much “style”…..I am planning on replacing with an HD branded set - i.e. Kahuna heated grips set, and since my bike is already setup with heated grips, i “should” be able to install the new set without completely removing the handlebars, only needing to fish the new clutch side grip wires thru the bars to make the connections

The HD heated grip sets range $250-$320 - depending on whether you can find a sale or a near new takeoff set.

Good Luck

This is exactly the route I went. I didn't care for the stock heated grips...even though they worked very well. Had Kahuna heated grips on my previous bike. Liked them enough I swapped out the stock for a set of Kahuna's shortly after I took delivery of my 2020 RGL. Easy "unplug old, plug in new" process. Then sold the stock heated grips to offset the replacement Kahuna's.

And to add...the Kahuna's work just as well as the stock. I don't think I've ever had to run them over 3 (of 6) on the dial. They get plenty hot.

How difficult is it when you already have stock heated grips? What I mean is I bought the Willie G Blacked out heated grips for my Ultra that already has stock heated grips and just looking at the install it sure seems like I have to remove the tank and completely pull out the stock grips/wiring and replace it with the "new" set and there aren't any shortcuts or tricks I can use to avoid having to do the complete disassembly. Was just curious... Thanks!

Not real sure on an Ultra but on my Road Glide Limited it was very easy. I replaced my bars (12" KST Pioneer) at the same time so running the wires internally on the bars was pretty simple. All the connections were easily accessible behind the gauges...no major disassembly required.

I am the opposite, I love the minimalist look of the stock black rubber heated grips. They were on back order last year for 9 months! I ended up with a new set of the Empire, and standard set within a week of each other. I went for the standard ones.
I have the new set of Empires hanging there for when these die, I guess

I use the Grip Puppies 'Big Paw' covers on mine. The go on in seconds, the heat from the grips goes through them nicely and they make the grips larger around for my big paws. I change them out once a year.
