Default Total Noob handlebar question

Riding a '19 Heritage Classic. Never had the type of handlebars I currently have. I'm surprised how comfortable they are. I'm considering moving up a few inches.

Question one: How tall are my handlebars? Do I measure them from the top of the triple tree or the bend of the bar itself?

What is my next logical step up? 2"? 4"?

Total noob here, but I love this bike.

Stock bars are 10” depending on the bars you go with they tend to go in 2” increments. You can also change risers for increasing different values or hieght and pullback.

I found the stock to low and went with 14” on stock risers and they fit perfect for me at 5’ 9”. Keep in mind any more than 2” increase an your going to have to do electrical and cable changes/extensions.

I used Rox Pivoting risers to get my HB's up about two inches and back about 1 1/2 inches. I havn't looked recently, but I think you can now get a set of 4" tall pull back risers for the heritage that uses the same top piece as the stock riser.

You should be able to install either without changing cables or having to extend the wiring. It made a big difference in comfort for me as my reach is short and now I can grip the bars with a slight bend in my arms with having to lean forward.

I would agree that the Heritage would be better suited in general with 12" bars rather than the stock 10".

Sped, here is a reference diagram from the H-D catalog that shows the standard nomenclature for handlebar dimensions. Hopefully this will help you determine what to buy if you want to retain the stock handlebar mounts.
