have you guys reached out to Whiplash? When I ordered my seat, they told me they could customize it for a modest fee in order to bring me back a bit. I'm now about 2-3 inches further back than I would be on their stock seat. It's really pretty perfect now at least in terms of the reach to my Lucky Dave's San Diego bars. (I got the 12" version and arms are pretty straight when I'm sitting back with my back not bent forward. I've got really long arms though and I think most folks would feel a bit to stretched. It also made the mid controls feel even more forward than they did previously. I don't think the mid controls on the Softails are true mids. They're more like a modest forward control. A mid to me is right below the seat- kind of like what you see on flat track bikes or most UJMs.
Anyway- I bet Whiplash could make you a seat that pushed you closer to the bars or maybe even lowered you- since all the seats are made to order and they were more than happy to indulge me and modify the seat for a tall guy.
I'm saving my pennies for the mid-controls The Speed Merchant developed- but that might be a while because the engine stuff is coming first!

Reason: forgot my point!
I just replaced the Saddlemen Explorer seat on my FB with a Saddlemen Step up seat. The Explorer seat was ok, I just didn't like the look of the passenger pad. I ride mostly solo. If I go for a ride with the misses we usually go on the Ultra.
I like it, prior to this I had the Bassani Road Rage exhaust. I liked the appearance and sound from the Bassani, but it scraped on corners. So I replaced it with the Bootlegger. Not everyone likes the Bootlegger....not sure why.... The Bootlegger has no heat shields. If I still had the stock foot boards on the bike, I could see it possibly being an issue, but my legs sit way forward of the exhaust with the forward controls I fitted.
I've never ridden on one but I keep wondering how a seat that's so angular can be comfy on a round butt? Are there no pressure points with this seat due to the angle? Wouldn't a similar profile seat but with a rounded seating area be more comfy and still have style?
I've been through so many seats it's dizzying...lol.
