I plan keeping my RK and eventually take a road trip. You think the slim is as capable in touring with just the right mods? I know you can put cc on it so that checks one box right there.
yes I do , But it's not going to be as good as a Road King for touring .. But I can't see any reason why you couldn't .. I put more miles on my slim last year then I ever did in I season on the Road King ..

I did +2800 miles on a Slim last December. Most of that over 4 days. 2 days from NJ to Fla, 2 days back. No complaints. I'd do it again tomorrow. I rented an Ultra Glide a couple years ago and did a +900 miles trip from Tampa to Key West, Fort Lauderdale and back to Tampa. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the bat wing! I wish I could put that setup on my Slim. I found the ride no more comfortable than the Softail's. I did however find the weight of the Ultra around town UN fun.
This is a link with pics from the trip

This is my 21 slim. I’m desperately looking to upgrade the seat, I sometimes ride 2 up with a suction cup seat and detachable sissy bar. I’m just so nervous about how some seats might affect riding position, the look and whether it’ll be comfortable enough . So hard to make a decision and I don’t have any local spots to try some seats.

What size windshield are you running on your bike? I probably need a 21" but I'm a little worried about how a huge windshield would look on the Slim. Yours' looks good.

I have a 21 inch windshield on my Slim. It looks a little on the large size but it works great at redirecting the wind. I'm just shy of 6'4". I thing the shorter shield would be too short for me.

I bought a Saddleman Renegade Solo seat shortly after buying my '20 Slim. One of the best upgrades, besides the 12" apehanger bars.

I would recommend a Saddleman Step Up with the padding in the rear pillion for ultimate comfort.

I put the Mustang Solo seat with Backrest and passenger seat on my bike. I only run with the passenger seat if I know I'm going to ride 2 up. This setup is great. It looks decent (not as nice looking as the stock seat, but that's the trade-off for comfort). The backrest is a must. I liked it so much on my '11 Sportster, I bought the same setup for my Slim. I put it on my bike shortly after I bought it so I must have close to 30K miles on it. No complaints.

I did have a Saddleman on my '92 Sportster. I didn't love it. It was more comfortable than stock but not great. And I thought it did not look good. To be fair that was back in '90's I'd hope the newer models are more comfortable, but I still don't like the look.
