Default Belt guard be gone.

I knew after getting my bike a few weeks ago (19 Deluxe), the ugliest part on the bike was the plastic belt guard. Ok, maybe the seat is uglier??? I have tried to find a chrome guard but to my knowledge, there are none for a 2018+ Deluxe. Yesterday I ordered my RideWright wheels, rotors and pulley. Too nice of stuff to be blocked by cheap black plastic.

The rear tire can pick up small stones in the tread and toss them onto the inside of the belt with the guard removed. When the stones ride the belt into the rear pulley they are forced through the belt. As you can imagine, holes in the belt are not a good thing.

Not at all disagreeing with the potential hazards of removing the BG. There are several previous threads on the topic. Based on my experience, experiences from many others on this forum, I think the chances of a catastrophic failure of the drive-train is highly unlikely. Most custom bike builders don’t install BG’s.

Stay off dirt roads, gravel parking lots, and new chip sealed road surfaces.

I think it looks much better without the guard.

Seems to be a lot of advice here, speculating what might happen...

Here`s a fact:

I removed the lower belt guard from my `89 Softail not long after I bought it (new), no issues in over 140,000 miles and 31 years.

The first belt was changed at 115,000 miles, after it started tossing teeth...

I removed the lower guard so that I could check the adjustment of the belt easier, I just pull the belt up and down, and I can tell if is adjusted properly without using a special tool.
