For me, the issue was the kickstand not locking into place. In other words, with the bike resting on the stand, the stand would easily fold-up with the slightest forward motion applied to the bike (causing the bike to fall onto its left side if you didn't stop this). I could only get the kickstand to "lock" into place (thus preventing it from folding up upon forward motion) by forcibly jarring the bike onto the stand while slightly moving the bike backwards. This is the only bike I've ever had this issue with, and it wasn't cool.

After the Dealership's warranty repair of the kickstand (they replaced bushings?), the stand now works normally as it should. The bike now easily rests onto the stand and locks into place.

All is now better in the world (well, kinda...).

I give mine a little tap with my foot to make sure it's locked in. What I dislike is having to lean over to the right quite far to release the kickstand if there's a slope on the left

The worst kickstand I ever had was a Ducati 748. There was no ratchet, so it would only stay down when the weight of the bike was on it. Lift the bike and the stand springs up by itself. It was too high to fold the stand down and have your left foot on the ground to hold it, so you had to stand on your right leg and let the bike drop on to the stand whilst holding it out with your left foot, trying to avoid leaving you toe under the stand!

We have the opposite issue in the UK. If you park a heavy bike near the edge of the road, beware you haven't misjudged it and the stand just sinks into the verge (did that once!) and make sure you have enough leverage to get it back up again because the road camber and gutters are working against you. Never thought about whether they put a longer kickstand on bikes for left hand driving markets?

Mart, you beat me to it, you’re right here in the UK we don’t need to worry about leaning right to get the stand down. We do need to look it’ll touch the ground at all, some roads our way are so cambered the bike would fall over. I can’t say I’ve noticed anything weird about the stand itself but others have complained about having to negotiate the foot rest.

I actually wonder here. How this kickstand should really work? I have to push out and pull in this kickstand all the way (both way) like there is not spring or anything. In the past when ready to ride I will give kickstand a light tap and it would fold under the frame by itself. This new one does not do that I have to guide it with my foot all the way down to close position. Didnt noticed any issues of bike do not lean enough to be secure this is good on my 19 Heritage. No big deal but it was nice feature for kickstand to fold by itself after light tap on previous bikes. My bike has 1000 miles so maybe it is not broken in yet or something??

Exactly. It's not a big deal if there's no slope. Or if you're parking in sand or mushy ground and have to put a 2X4 or something under the stand.

When I was test riding bikes at the dealer I was on an '18 street bob. In the parking lot I thought I had kicked the stand the whole way out, but it was only part way out. And when I went to get off the bike the whole damn bike fell over, right on top of me. It ended up scratching the round cover thing on the left side, and then the sales guy had to enter some codes into it before it would start again. I didn't know what to say other than "I don't think I want this one anymore."

The sales guy was fine with it though and he had a good reply "Don't worry about it. That's why we have insurance, and we'll get it back from you in parts sales and shop rates anyway".

I certainly like the old design better. I just keep in mind the issues with the stand when parking and make sure it is locked in. No problem so far.

I plopped over in my Credit Union parking lot.Put it down while sitting and leaned over to find it did not lock in place like my Touring would.
Dropped it right on top of me, looking like a complete idiot. After I got free, I picked it back up, reset the stand and couldn't figure out what I had done wrong.
