Hey guys, and Girls. So this is a post similar to the one I posted a while back before I got to ride my new 2020 street Bob softail. I’m thinking about doing a stage one with the tuner all Harley genuine parts. I’m not looking for a huge horse power gains, this bike is a real stump puller it’s crazy the amount of power this has compared to my old 2004 super glide. What I want to do the stage one for, is to see if the bike would run at a more optimum level. Namely the tuner and letting it breathe better with a better tune to it. Funny it does seem to run hot to me still. It’s hard to say what I’ll think about it come the warmer months it doesn’t bother me now. But I’m going to wonder what its going to run like in June. Would the high flow air intake, and aftermarket exhaust, along with the screaming eagle tuner help it run cooler and help it to run smoother and even more optimum to where it would be a better running bike? Let me know what the stage ones has done for you. I really don’t think I need another cam I don’t think I need to stage two at this point gosh the things in already a monster.

Reason: Typo
A stage one should help with all of those things. More cool air in and exhaust gases out. Plus a good tune should always make it run a little richer, which I believe makes it cooler. Plus it helps increase throttle response in my opinion which means you will feel more power.
Stage 1 SE EPA tuner will have no substantial effect on AFR compared to stock. Its tuned to run EPA legal in stock form, same with the SE tune. All the SE tune will do will compensate for the slight increase in intake and exhaust flow the Stage 1 parts deliver. Most recognizable difference will be more/better sound (which is sometimes KEY), and sensitive butt dyno's may notice the what, 3-5 hp the stage 1 provides at WOT. But don't expect a night and day performance difference. Nor will you see any heat difference. 1) its an air cooled motor. They get hot. and 2) the cats are where a lot of heat is generated.
However doing a stage 1 will prepare you for a cam if you choose to go that far. The SE 447 cam does most definitely make a nice improvement with the appropriate Stage 3 tune, I will say that.
So it sounds like basically youre saying theres no game whatsoever. I figured the tuner would at least make it run for optimum level. I mean thats what Harley Davidson says. Which I always found weird because its like well why dont they just use that tuner when it leaves the shop.

No, there is likely a small gain, 3 or so hp. What you need to know is the SE tuner stage 1 tune will make the bike run as well with the somewhat freeer flowing stage 1 components as it did in stock form. If you dont use the s1 tune, your bike will run a little leaner. Some say thats fine, I disagree but everyone has an opinion.
The real gains are using non epa compliant stuff, but then you risk warranty problems. Even so, non-epa gear/tunes for stage 1 will only get you another 5 or so more hp/tq then HD compliant stuff. But you will get the slightly cooler run from the richer non-compliant tunes. Slightly. M8s run pretty good stock. Unlike Twin Cams where were brutally lean stock tunes.
Yes honestly, this motor runs great I cant believe the torque in it compared to my 2004 super glide. That head aftermarket air cleaner, Vance and Hines pipes down on, and I forget what cam but this thing is a monster.
Those are sweet rides by the way! Which seat do you prefer?
Thanks.
Well, the enormous HD Hammock seat on the Road King is like sitting in a laz-y-boy recliner. I could fall asleep on it. It is by far the most comfortable MC seat I've had my *** address. The Tallboy is great seating position, but it gets a little rough after 3+ hours. I just ordered a BMC/Corbin "Wall" seat with 2" extra height (padding) and 2" rearward. I'm hoping its going to be the one. Edit: For the Low Rider, just to state the obvious...
