You would think, but I would bet that a company in as serious financial trouble as the MoCo finds itself these days probably doesn't want to pay to replace umpteen thousands of speedometers.

My dealer says that almost all the ones that have been replaced have failed again. In my case it's very temperature specific. After a cool night in the garage riding in the sun causes severe condensation on the lower part of the speedo making the important readout difficult or impossible to read.I has always gone away after a couple of hours only to return next time I ride on a warm sunny day.

Low humidity for South Florida anyway, I would expect see it more often myself.

They usually have money set aside to cover actual costs of recalls and warranties, the big expense is lost sales and reputation and sometimes the stock hit associated, for a major company a class-action would cost much more, not to mention any injuries/deaths associated with it. If deemed a safety issue, they don't have a choice in the matter.

Mine stays in the garage at night, only see it here after it sits in the sun at work, then rarely. Maybe it is either too hot, humid or too cool and not humid most of the time.

Nothing will happen if it isn't reported and complained about. Getting close to the time of year I might be able to get to happen consistently enough to file a complaint, I certainly want to find a fix, I know those that see it more often than me definitely want it gone.

In one of the several other gauge condensation threads I pulled a picture of somebody that has a solution to drill vent holes in the gauge.
The idea of dropping the bike off to fix this and then it reappears doesn't appeal to me.

The only thing I want to see is that speedo/tach combo for the M8 models.
My ears are the tach, but occasionally I like to glance down at that tach needle, not a digital read out.

I’d buy that damn thing in a heartbeat if it’d work with the Fatboy. Does anyone know the technical reason it won’t? Is it just the lack of a gas gauge and DTE? It works with a Road King, so it can’t be THAT different.

I switched to a dual gauge bar mounted set up on my Sport Glide; I used stock gauges from an FXLR. I started to see some speedometer condensation when I was still using the stock tank mounted set up, but once I switched to the dual gauge set up a few months ago I haven't had an issue since.

It's really funny, I had a '94 FLSTN for 26 years and 223,000 miles. during that time I had three speedometers on that bike (first one broke, second one was replaced with one I liked the looks of better), and not one of them EVER had a bit of condensation inside. This '19 Heritage had condensation show up the first day I owned the bike, and EVERY sunny day since.

From what my dealer told me, the issue is the gauges aren't sealed up at all. If you look on the back side where the wire plugs in, there's a gap all around where that plug goes. Thereby letting moisture and humidity get in easily, but not out easily. The only solution is aftermarket. I posted in the what did you do to your Softail thread. I prefer the asthetics of the OEM gauge, but am much happier that I can actually see everything I need to now, plus a bit more. I swapped mine to the Dakota Digital MLX-3012 gauge and couldn't be happier.
