I've looked at a lot of boot pliers online, but I can't tell which ones are likely to fit. As you said, there's not much room there.

I also looked at some online. Particularly some lisle ones. I had already rigged up some needle noses I had with some ducktape wrapped around but my fingers were able to do the trick. They didn’t seem as fragile as I was expecting. I have read of people tearing them and to get the “special tool” but couldn’t find any info on that. Service manual didn’t specify either.
