I decided to swap out the stock risers to bring the bars up and back a little bit. I had read mixed reviews on the HD 4" Curved Handlebar Riser Kit (part 56066-82A). Some people said they had to change cables, some said only the brake, some said none. I also had difficulty finding out if the stock top cap fit. Then I found the Drag Specialties 3.5" pullback risers! I also read some mixed reviews about things needing to be changed. Whelp, I just installed them and I didn't need to change any cables or extend any wiring. The stock top cap also fits just fine. I only needed new bolts and screws. I've listed them below. Figured I'd make a post to save someone the trouble of all the measuring and questioning I did during the swap.
So here's what I went with:
Drag Specialties Chrome 3 1/2" Pullback Risers (part# 0602-0408)
You'll also need:
New riser bolts - 2 of 1/2"-13 x 2" hex bolt
New top clamp screws - 4 of 5/16"-18 x 3/4" Allen-drive (also called internal hex) screws
I got the bolts at a local auto parts store but I could only find the Allen-drive screws at a hardware store.
The windshield helps a lot with these risers, right ? More pressure on the chest with the upright position.
You are probably taller than me : I am 5'5" (1,66m) and prefer to stay stock.
Im taller. The risers were more to try to fix the issue of my hands going numb. The stock bars are the lowest Ive ever had on a bike, Im used to apes or mini-apes. So far the problem seems to be fixed.
I havent tried without the windshield. Speed limits all around me are 75-80mph and I just find a windshield a lot more comfortable.
I'm thinking of doing exactly this mod myself. I hope the pullback will make it easier to reach the handlebar.
Are the riser bolts (New riser bolts - 2 of 1/2"-13 x 2" hex bolt) identical to the stock ones?
Thank you!
PS stock FXLR 2018, I'm 5'8 and need to lean forward and crouch over the tank to reach handlebar well.
