Default Fat Bob - Mustache Engine Guard

Not 100% sure on how I feel.
Just ordered one as I want some protection from a tip over as an added bonus another place to put my feet.
But not sure how I feel about the looks...

So I would like to ask anyone who has some installed, what are your thoughts?
Were you on the fence and then fell in love or did you end up ripping them off?

Just so you know I have no wind screen or front fairing on my bike.

I’m in the same boat: on the fence. My only reason for not doing it already is for the aesthetic.

Having had them on my Street Glide, they provide 2-3 very important functions for me. 1 and 2. In the random event the bike falls on it’s side, they not only prevent damage but also make picking up the bike a ton easier (the only time that happened, the jiffy stand didn’t quite engage when I parked - I was in a rush). And 3. In the accident that totaled that bike, the engine guard wound up folded in against the engine. The guard took the initial impact from the car, deflected the entire bike and I got thrown off of the bike (into the opposite lane of oncoming traffic). Had the crash bar/engine guard not been there, my leg would have taken that impact and been sandwiched between the car and my engine = very bad.

Talking through this, I’ll very likely be adding some sooner than later.

I’m in the same boat right now.

For me, it’s between the HD mustache bar and the Bung King highway/crash bar. The latter seeming very over priced for what it is.

I’d love to hear more experiences with them.

I put on the Bung King bar. I just don't care for the big hoop look of a regular Harley engine guard, and the mustache is a little tiny bit better but I still hated it. I kind of love the looks of the Bung King, it looks more like a heavy-duty truck brush guard instead of a goofy hoop.

My bike has only been down once, and that was a 0mph slow tipover at a gas station (didn't look where I put my foot down, slipped, and the bike tipped over). Zero damage. Zero. It could have been expensive, could have been a huge scrape or dent on the tank or other, but instead -- it was perfectly absolutely fine.

The Bung King rear bars double as replacement footpegs. If you have a short-legged passenger, as I do, they may very well appreciate the higher peg position of the rear crash bar.

I like my HD mustache engine guard on my 2018 Heritage. I think it looks less obtrusive and does the job well.

I decided I wanted to add a crash bar for all the reasons mentioned by others, and I specifically chose the HD mustache bar for its looks. It's always personal preference

Thanks for all the feedback, Glad I am not alone in my being on the fence with this.
I looked at the Bung King options and while I like the looks (a bit more) the price was to high as I would need to add shipping etc.
I went with the HD version (have yet to pick it up from dealer) I guess my issues was not seeing on a 2018+ Fat Bob first hand and was an expensive part. (way cheaper then the damge from a tip over mind you..)

I think the piece of mind will overcome the looks.

I'll be sure to document my process well, for any that are interested.

Almost anything you add to a bike that has to do with safety will affect the look, there's no getting around it.

I've had the mustache guard on my last three bikes. After a while, you won't even notice it. Plus, they make great highway bars. Put your feet up and cruise. Well worth the money.

You can always check out those footpeg bars that do the same job but are less unobtrusive, sort of like these I found on eBay.

I've been looking at the mustache bar and found some videos on Youtube with them on Fat Bobs. They don't look bad at all and are a bit less expensive than the Bung King crash bars.

I was considering the high bung king bar but may just go with the mustache bar to save a bit of cash and use the Bung King rear passenger pegs/frame sliders as well. They will even out my passenger's foot placement and will help protect the bike along with the mustache bar. The photos below are from a video on youtube.
