Default Sport Glide Questions

At 60, finding my Ultra Limited a little heavy. So, I've been thinking about a Sport Glide. I'm just a little worried about how it would handle high speeds on a highway. Is it as smooth and vibration free is the Limiteds are ? What about buffeting ? Is there a good windshield solution ?

There are a bunch of windshield options on the Sport Glide Mods thread.

There's even a thread just about Sport Glide windshield options.

I ride interstate at 80+ regularly without issue. Stock fairing and shield. No problems at all. Best/easiest handing bike I've ever ridden.

It's a bit of a change, but at our age it's a welcome one. I too faced the same dilemma. I am almost 63. I traded in my '17 Road Glide for a '21 Sport Glide. October last year I t-boned a car in FL and totalled my Ultra. After a month or so I bought the Road Glide to replace it. It seemed like a logical choice since I had been on the touring platform since my '85 FLHT. I have lost 60 lbs due to medical reasons and the Touring platform was just getting too heavy to handle, on top of that I now have nerve damage in my left foot from the accident. I outfitted my new bike with floorboards and converted it to a heel/toe shifter and added a taller windshield. The new softails are very nice riding with the new frame and other improvements. You won't have all the bells and whistles as on the touring bikes, but we didn't have them years ago like they do now anyway. You still have bags & cruise. You can even take the bags and fairing off for the stripped down look. It has allowed me to keep riding and that's what counts. I'm loving the Sport Glide so far! I say go test ride one, who knows, you may like it. It not for everyone coming from Touring bikes, but it sure worked for me.

The Sport Glide will not be as comfortable on the interstate at high speeds as what you are used to. Period. There will be more vibration than you are used to. Period. It will be more comfortable in almost every other way.

I'm 67, sold Ultra in 2014. It was just too heavy anymore. Went thru a couple other softails and 2 Heritages before a 2020 Performance Orange sport Glide. Ride and especially the handling are better than any Harley I have ever ridden. Drag Specialties floorboards with DK adapters were essential. Air management has been a little challenging. First somewhat successful try was a 12 inch Slipsteamer Touring flip screen that I drilled 6 one inch holes along the bottom edge to relieve air pressure behind the shield. Not bad but air coming from under the tank got worse. Tuesday my lower fairing deflectors from Gustofson will be here. That should help solve that problem. I find that I ride this bike more because it's so easy to move around, light and low instead of heavy touring frames.

I've put around 10,500 miles on my 2018 bike since new. In that time I tried the 12" shield on the stock fairing and it didn't do it for me. Then I went to a memphis shades fats 19" windshield and that was better. Now I have a memphis shades fairing and a long rides shields windshield and I think this is as good as I'm going to get without going to street or road glide. I'm also in my 60s and don't want an 800lb bike. Another bonus is I can still remove this fairing and the bags and go to a more cruiser style bike in about a minute.
