Default Clutchless shifting possible?

As I've never owned a HD before, I'm curious to know, how they handle clutchless shifting, if they do at all. Most of the video's I've seen, the riders are using the clutch consistently, both up and down the box, which is something I haven't done for a long time.

Will I damage or wear something excessively if I go up through the box without the clutch routinely?

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes, you can absolutely shift both up and down without the clutch. I do it all the time on my 14 SGS.

I clutchless shift all the time... on my wr or tiger because the have actual transmissions. On my harley with the box of rocks they call a transmission, its possible but I really don't want to make that transmission any worse.

A clutch was included as part of the OEM design, it is there for a reason. If the MOCO thought the motorcycle would shift without using the clutch, they would have done away with it long ago. That said, if you know how to preload the shift lever and are quick on the throttle it is pretty easy to up-shift through the gears. Down shifting, not so much.

You can damage the shifting forks if not done correctly.

Good comment and its well received, thank you. I have a fair bit of experience on bikes, some 27 years I think now, but in all that time I've never really ridden a Harley properly. They are a total unknown from a riders perspective, which makes it more exciting to have my first one coming I've never found much harm in clutchless, but of course we're talkiing mostly jap or german bikes. Jap bikes will put up with all kinds of abuse, but german not so much.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of clutch, I shall adapt.

WR. Now theres a bike series thats on my bucket, bucket list. Absolute stunners. Have great respect for anything Yamaha really. Considered a VMax instead of the Breakout, but like the Rocket and others, its just not the same kind of bike or experience. WR supermoto...I might just about need Depends if I ever build that combo.

Mine shifts easy without using the clutch but only if it’s not running.
