Default Trans fluid

2015 Fatboy lo 103 TC, cams .o30 head gaskets. What's the best trans fluid to run? Currently running vtwin trans fluid. I feel it may be too thick. Feel like clutches aren't grabbing for a sec at very high rpms..

Gear oil. A transmission is just a bunch of gears. I always used 75w-90 whether it be in a evo or twin cam. In the evo i use regular dino oil and in twin cams I would use synthetic.

Cadipietro - You really should ask this question in the Softail Models section, this one is for 2018 and up Softail.

With that said transmission oil tends to be heavier in a HD, your manual can give you the correct weight required and any quality brand should be fine.

If your clutch is slipping you probably need to adjust your clutch, refer to your manual or take it to a shop.

Good luck

Trans fluid has nothing to do with your clutch engagement. That would be you're primary fluid that affects you clutch engagement.

Transmission fluid is for automatic transmissions. Gear oil, or transmission oil is a better descriptor.

I agree. In the transmission--which is separate from the primary and crankcase, gear oil is really the best option. The high-sulfur content helps with the shear and EP (extreme pressure) on the gearsets. Gear oil is also more suited for transmission as the gear oil additive package helps against aeration and foaming.
