Hi Guys
can anyone told me if I really have to remove caliper for brake pad replacement for 2019 HERITAGE 114?
I also would like to check on wrench sizes as I believe some of it can be metric. I am concerned about sizes I will need for pin #6 and mounting bolts #2
If needed I can remove this caliper if absolutely necessary but would like to avoid that if not needed. Also will it be too hard without opening master cylinder on the handlebar?
Anything special I should be aware of for this job?
BTW is this normal to replace 2 sets of front pads in 15k miles?? This seems a bit excessive to me but no doubt I use front way more than the back.
I never do. Collapse pistons Pull Pad hanger pins. Pads fall out. insert new one line up pins put the back . If pins are worn replace them if not reuse them. Do not open bleeder no need to
Why not just follow the procedure in the Factory Service Manual? It’s not very hard to do. BTW, if you don’t open the reservoir top, where’s the fluid going to go when you press back the pistons?

Dealer filled up fluid when they installed new pads so fluid shoudnt go up any higherthen proper lever
Ok I removed the pads damn one side was metal on metal. i grinded back side of rotor a bit but not enough I think to toss it so I will be replacing pads tomorrow probably. Does HD offer any long lasting pads? Last time I had lyndall but stock lasted double the milage so I will go back yo stock at least for now
In my experience the OEM pads always last longer then the aftermarket ones. Don’t know why. As far as the 15k if you’re doing a lot of stop and go it’s normal. When I was using I-95 everyday my pads would wear down very quickly, between the friction and stopping every few feet they didn’t have a chance.
Thought I will clarify. Stock pads lasted 9k while lyndall barely 5k so much for aftermarket longevity. Just purchased oem again.
for these bolts holding pads and caliper on the leg should I apply any thread locker or anything?
I personally have been using purple loctite on every screw and bolt for years. Purple is a very light grade and designed for small screws and such but I have had a 100% success rate and I keep my many bikes up as well as many friends bikes that I keep up. I may use blue on something I shouldn't have to remove like adding a mustache bar or such.
Purple gives just enough without too much.
