Do any of these mounts allow clamping to the center of the 2018+ Fatbob's handlebars? The diameter at that point is about 1.6" and the mounts I've seen max out at 1.5" (I'm sure I've missed some mounts)

The RAM claw mount will work. Just measured. It opens to 1.5" wide, but there's at least an extra 0.1" of flex so you could definitely get it around the bars.

I use an iOmount from Klockwerks.
Been using one mounted to my fairing for 2 years and no issues.

I second this mount, the easiest phone mount that I have ever used, and rock solid.

That's my problem. I have a modern phone with image stabilization and it makes my pictures wiggle for about a minute before I can take pics. Now I keep it in my pocket. I leave the phone mount on so I can charge my phone now and then.

I care more about using my phone on my handlebars than having my image stabilization possibly go out. If it does go out, my wife can take pictures. I never take any pictures anyways.

To each their own... I used to keep the phone on the bars as well and had a few thoughts / issues on this. One was I am out riding and want to get away from the dings, rings and messages. If important (family etc.) they knew how to reach me or communicate it was urgent (we use URGENT! at start of message). As others may have said, I keep my phone on me as that is where others may find it (worst case) vs the bike and I wont forget about it. I do have a GPS (I like mapping routes), and bluetooth helmet set up so I get a notice of a call, or message, can listen to music if I like and hear directions (or if I wish talk to others in group rides). However most times it is in silent mode. As with the dinner table I find the phone too distracting from what I am actually doing.

I too don't use my phone much for photos (other do so I'm covered most times), but more of preference due to the above. Kinda why I owned a Road King and now Slim, as well as rebuild old brit bikes vs a fully loaded tourer I guess... simple.

MC Rider had a video on cell phone motorcycle mounts last week. He like the Quad mount with a vibration dampener. Here's a link.

Put it in your pants or jacket pocket is the safest method and use blue-tooth in the helmet if you need contact. I might get a blue-tooth for music one day, but the phone will stay out of sight in my pants or jacket.

As mentioned, if something happens the phone is on you.

I enjoy not being bothered and just enjoy the ride. I have the GPS in the cage set for voice directions so I am not driving distracted in a cage or a motorcycle. If you must mount it on the motorcycle, put it out of sight and out of reach.

You'll be as bad (or worse) than the cages motorcyclist complain about.

He also has one on distracted driving. Main point, you can't do 2 things at once. FACT.
