I would like to raise the OEM bars on my Heritage a couple inches. Is it possible to do so without having to change the stock wires and controls? If so, what risers would you recommend?
If you just need 2", you should be OK. Four or more inches you will need to replace at least one of the cables to be on the safe side.
Revzilla offers some nice 2" straight risers that are super easy to install if you have a basic set of tools--including a socket set. They are about 2/3's cheaper than the HD ones and use the existing handlebar clamps. Make sure you also order longer mounting bolts.
Jim is technically right, at least in terms of what I did. I replaced the factory 2" risers with 4-1/2" risers without issue. So technically I added another 2-1/2" up but also 2" or so back.
Together with the Saddlemen Explorer seat I was able to get 2" up and 2" back from the factory seating position. And I needed all of it due to my height.

Curious about this combo since I'm 6'0" and am exploring options for my stock HC. Feels like I need to sit back a bit further and have the bars a bit higher (which is how I feel every time I rent a stock bike).
Did you find adding the risers plus the Saddlemen putting you up 2" to be a wash? If the seat pushes me taller I'd think that would just undo the benefit of the risers.
I needed to be up and back 2" in each direction in order to make my legs more comfortable and able to get to the brake and gearshift easier. I'm 6'1". So while it may have been a wash in terms of bar to hands I had to do it. But the ~2" back that the risers provide also help to offset the seat moving me back 2". I posted a link to another thread below, that shows my stock seat and the Saddlemen in comparison pictures that clearly shows the difference in lateral and vertical positioning. So for someone who doesn't need to move up and back the stock risers might be fine, even if the factory seat is burning their backside after an hour in the saddle. But given I needed to come up and back the extended risers kept my reach the same as the factory seat, but with a much better seat quality. About the only thing worse than a burning butt is the kink in the back of the neck you get when having to reach out or down too far when gripping the bars. Hope this helps.
