Default Accessory Harness Install

I did this the other day to provide power to the heated grips that I also installed on my wifes 21 Heritage 114 at the same time. I thought I would share some pictures and information that might help others. Remember to run as much gas out of the bike as you can.

Pull your main fuse, then get started removing the gas tank --
Remove seat(s)
Loosen the front tank mount bolt, then remove the rear tank mount bolt.
Lift the rear of the tank and support it with a piece of wood or a book between the tank and frame. This will expose these connections on the left side of bike. Disconnect them.

Remove whatever you're using to hold the rear of the tank up, and let the tank back down.
Remove front tank bolt.
Lift the tank up enough to slide it rearward to expose this wire harness that runs through a rubber grommet. Remove remove the grommet to expose this connector and disconnect it.

You can now remove the tank and take it in the house and put it on the sofa to protect it. If she complains, tell her to make you a sammich.

The USB caddy is supported at the front by the horn mounting bracket, so it comes off too.

Now go to the left side rear of the USB caddy and remove this push pin mount.

Go back to the right side of the bike, and slide the caddy forward to disconnect it from the rear mount. Now you can turn the bottom of the caddy toward you and remove the 4 screws that hold the top and bottom together. Pop the top off, then separate this connector.

Grab the adapter harness, plug it in, and tuck it in nice and pretty like this.

Run the harness out of the rear of the caddy, put the 2 halves back together, then reinstall the caddy and horn assembly. The harness coming out of the rear of the caddy should look something like this.

The harness will be secured by zip ties and retainers included with the adapter kit, and run along the side of the frame rail forward of the steering head.

Obviously, everything else goes back together in the reverse.

I used this for heated grips, but you can use it for anything you want that requires 12v power. It's not hot until you turn on the ignition, so they've idiot proofed it too.

You can find some useful info on my heated grip install here --- https://www.hdforums.com/forum/2018-...ted-grips.html

Thanks for posting this. Looks to be a little different than the touring models. I'm sure I'll use this information in the future.

I'm way late, and resurrecting this thread, but I'm getting ready to do this and just want to say thanks for taking the time to take such good quality pictures and share them with us. Looks very easy and is damn near impossible to mess up with these pictures (knocking on wood now).

You're welcome and I'm glad I did it too. I got rid of that bike and got a 2022, so I get to do it all over again if they ever get the harness and grips back in stock.

i did it without the harness i just spliced the wires but its not working , but you made a comment that the bike has to be running? and for how long until you feel them warm up cause i did this for like a min or more and they dont work

Let's stick to your original thread - no need to have 3 different conversations going.
