Or rain or cold or strain on your body if you spend a whole day traveling. I’ve commuted / rode in the rain in the cold I’ve put a 1,000 mile day on getting to Sturgis. Things that suck a lot more without proper wind management. For me it makes the ride or bike more enjoyable and rideable.

if I hit the asphalt I hope my brain bucket does the it’s designed for. I’ve also popped my fairing off and bar hopped on a hot Sunday afternoon. 2,000 miles over 20 years is not my plan. To each his own.

That is good news for me since I don't mind the wind as long as it is clean. Can't stand turbulence.

Cheers,

I was wondering how the vents worked to quell turbulence on the Rushmore bikes so I vented my Klockwerks, this has helped tremendously and I do recommend this modification

Same problem. The 12 inch Slipstreamer made it much worse so I drilled 6, 1 inch holes across the bottom, 1 inch above the fairing. Little difference. So I put on the lowers from Gustefson, made it worse. Just bought Memphis Fats 19 inch. In the city I used to just take the stock fairing off or if it was really hot. I agree that adding taller screens just makes it worse. Stock is fine, lot of air but it is clean air. Put your arm across your chest and it all goes away, clean and quiet.

After upgrading to the 5" HD screen I went through a phase of researching a larger screen for quite awhile. As time passed I sort of just got used to the 5" and now don't have any interest in changing to a different screen. But the one that did look the most interesting was Gustefson.

This shot shows the Gustafson 15" vented. This works way better with far less buffeting than anything shorter that I have seen but still allowed some minor buffeting from air that came under the fairing and then up over the tank. After adding Gustafson's lowers (not pictured) it re routed the air that was coming over the tank out and around the bike.

I'm happy with my current setup, but I am curious about this Memphis Shades Drop Top they have come out with.

I have the drop top. Better than any shield combination on the factory fairing, but still get enough buffeting at highway speeds to be annoying.

I picked up a 2020 Sport Glide two weeks ago that came with the 5" and a Klock Werks 8". I thought the 5" was loud and had too much buffeting. The 8" was better, but still loud. If I can barely hear my full-face helmet speakers at full volume that's too much noise (and fatiguing). Then I tried naked. Good stuff: the air is clean, and while the noise increases with speed it's always quieter than the 5" and 8". So on a whim I ordered the original 1.5" and put it on yesterday: I'm not sure it provides much more wind protection than nothing, but the air is still clean and the noise level tolerable. I was however reminded by a major bug strike to my face shield that there's a downside to clean air to the helmet.. Still, for me (5'9", but with a longer torso/shorter arms and legs) the noise/turbulence difference between 1.5" and 5" makes me wonder what HD was thinking when they decided to change from 1.5" to the 5" screen.

I do have a 12" slip streamer in a box to try out, and some Gustafsson lowers on the way, so I'm not done experimenting with combinations yet. I'd really like a solution that stops bugs and provides some weather protection without losing my hearing. I wish HD made a clamping classic windshield for the Sport Glide; I don't suppose that'll happen now that they've dropped the model.

Really its either the Gustafson 15" vented with lowers or its an aftermarket fairing like pjbuilder or Huntwhenever did. Or possibly something someone modified with vents like Pragmatic did plus lowers. Nothing else seems to work for **** with the stock fairing.
