Default But the stock fairing looks so good

I took a 50-mile freeway trip with the 1.5" today (and then took the side roads back). The noise was definitely louder at 70 mph then at ~50 mph, but acceptable. The never-ending bug splats were not. I'll swap in the 12" slip streamer tomorrow, and once the fairing lowers arrive try them as well. If some combination of those works for me: great. I can see venting a windscreen too. But I won't be surprised if I end up falling back to the Memphis Shades option; of course this means I can't just throw the OEM fairing on/off the bike so quickly, which sucks because being able to do this is really cool. I'm not ruling out a frame-mounted fairing, but it looks like more work/money than I'm ready to try at this stage.

It's a shame, because the stock fairing looks so good on this bike.

If you can begin deflection at the forks, it will drastically change air flow and turbulence.
Not all folks can cope with the look of fork deflectors, but they do work IMO.
Gustafson vented has been the best fairing attached w/s to date for me.

I'd sure would like to try a Memphis Shades FATS with fork deflectors.

I tried to reply to @VernDiesel last night but it got munched. Lots of great information here!

I did a 50 mile stretch on the freeway yesterday with the 1.5" and while the noise was tolerable the repeated bug strikes to face shield were not! (I'm new to the Washington desert, and it seems like the bugs here are worse than they were in Alabama!)

I'll put the 12" slip streamer on today and try it, but based on what so many others have done I expect there will be turbulence coming around the tank. I have the Gustafsson lowers on the way so the real test will be when they arrive. I have the Mustache engine guard with Desert Dawgs and the Memphis Shades Hand Guards, so I think I'll have something a lot like @jackballin's setup. Hopefully that or some similar combination will work with the OEM fairing, because I really like the look of it on the bike (it's one of the first things that drew my attention to the Sport Glide). I could end up trying an aftermarket fairing, like @HuntWhenever, but at the moment that's more work (and money) than I want to do, and I want to keep the option of easily stripping the fairing and bags off the bike around town.

I've done fork deflectors before; I don't mind the look and would be willing to try them too. I'd like to be able to try them without having to abandon the removable fairing. Is there a way to do this without needing to install the Memphis Shades QD hardware?

My last two posts here haven't appeared, so I'm not sure if they failed to post, or I'm in moderation because my post count is low, but I tried the 12" slip streamer and soft lowers today:
  • 50mph +/- was quiet
  • 60mph +/- a bit louder
  • 70mph louder and hints of buffeting, but acceptable for a few hours
I noticed that leaning in a few inches put me in a very quiet bubble, so I'm going to try a 15" screen. And if my two prior posts are indeed gone I appreciate the feedback on my initial post.

It's STILL snowing here. I'm busy trying to cut firewood for the 23--24' season.
Hoping to get lift my cover and roll the Sport Glide into my shop in a couple of days.
I'll post a picture of all the gizmos I have attached.
Gustafson high vented, Gustafson lower defectors, Memphis Shades fork deflectors (had to piece them out as MS does not sell a kit)

I went to the same setup as Gizmo83 with the Gustafsson 15" vented and lowers and i'm not having any issues. The 12" Slip Streamer with the Gustafsson lowers was decent but at 6'2" tall I went ahead and added the 15". I'm done spending money on windshield; I will be listing the Slip Streamer 12" for sale on ebay for $50, if anyone is interested I will post the ebay link when i list it.
