Quick question. When the stand is down properly does it lock so that the bike can't roll forward?

I can't stand the the side stand on my 17 rks. I do like most here. Keep my foot on it and give my bars a tug back. Never feels like it;s going to stay. Especially compared to the stand on my 11 blackline. At least that stand actually goes a hair forward of 90*.

Doesn't actually lock. It's facing forward so the bill won't roll forward. I always turn my bars all the way to the left just to be sure.

It does lock. If yours doesn't lock, there's something wrong with it.

If you always make sure it's locked you won't have a problem but you have to be deliberate. It is a bad design and the one thing that I don't like about my Heritage.

Ah, so it does lock. Just hard to get it locked. Good to know.

In the proper position, the weight of the bike pushes a tab into a slot and it locks. Is this your first Harley? Have the newer bikes degraded to the point where the best side stand (Jiffy) in the world has turned to crap? I've owned several HD's and never had a problem with that. I even had one rear ended in a parking spot and it rolled 6 ft or so forward up over the curb onto the sidewalk and then rolled back down into the parking spot. All on the side stand!

Not my first HD, but my first M8. I'm glad this aspect of the jiffy stand has not changed.

The new crap kick stands are on the softails. Touring bikes still have the jiffy kick stands. I used to work for HD and if it was a windy day, we didn't put the softails outside due to the the bike possibly falling over which one did. Due to the fact that the end of the kick stand does in fact dig into the pavement and doesn't allow the bike to lean completely. Terrible design. So unless you double check it, the bike can be sitting more upright and fall over if windy enough. To err is human. You should not have to check that your bike is on the stand. All my prior bikes I could put the stand down and walk away without giving it a second thought. I think it should be a recall but what do I know..
