Heritage Seats

I've got a Mustang Wide Touring Solo on my '09 Nightster. It has worked well for me. It looks good and is comfortable. I can ride all day on it. So, with that in mind, when it came time to replace the stock seat on my '18 Heritage, the first thing that came to mind was Mustang. Unfortunately the Mustang Standard Touring Solo didn't work for me on the Heritage. It was actually more uncomfortable than the stock seat. Friend of mine has it now. It works for him. My wife said the Mustang passenger pillion was an improvement for her but still had it's limitations.
After my experience with the Mustang, I decided that comfort was going to be king. So with that in mind I reached out to Russel Day Long. RDLs are custom seats made to fit you and your passenger... and yes, they can be pricey. However, RDLs are - as their name suggests - truly day long seats. My understanding is that RDLs are a favorite with the Iron Butt competition crowd.
I can certainly ride this seat all day. Very comfortable. You can see how it might distribute weight evenly over a larger area. Important. My wife also is a big fan. She says she's very comfortable. She no longer begs me to pull over after an hour. I initially questioned whether I really needed the backrest. I decided to go ahead and get it. I'm glad I did, I no longer will ride the Heritage without it. It does wonders saving my back. I can ride this bike all day long and feel fine when I get off of it. Before the RDL, my body would let me know it if I rode for any length.
On thing of note is the seat angle. The Mustang seat on the Heritage slopes down towards the back (as does the stock seat). The RDL provides a level seat (so does the Mustang on my Nightster). This probably has a lot to do with the comfort provided. My posture is much better on the RDL - impacting both comfort and control.
Other options that likely would produce similar results - tractor or police seats. You can see how they also distribute weight well, provide a level seating surface and likely improve posture. You can find various examples posted on the forums...

Appears like it would be very comfortable and and has the vintage look that goes well with the Heritage. Probably wouldn't work for me though... Got to have something comfortable for my wife and, as I mentioned before, I'm now spoiled and won't ride the Heritage without the backrest.
Another interesting iteration...

If comfort is King... Then these options might be where you need to look.
