i plan to convert my S into a modern NIGHT TRAIN if you will...i am laying out my rear fender to cut it down, so a plate and light relocation is in order. i will be lowering my rear quite a bit...many attempts in paint playing with the look.

i looked into this rear fender, looks like struts, fender and seat were needed ?
i have a badlander seat i was planning on modifying to lay the way i want.

so, please any and all info is welcome...under seat pics, what all was needed, any problems...other than seat fitment, i cannot really think of any real issues...wiring relocation for lights ?
you’ll need everything mentioned…. Stock seat fender, struts and also the fat bob nut plates ($12) and 3/8”x16 thread strut bolts. I got the lighting done but now have to decide on my license plate location since I don’t want it attached to the fender. I’ll post up some under seat pics once I get that figured out. It fits fine but the to forward corners of the seat slightly rub on the tank and also leaves the tank dash bolt exposed. Probably going to undo the front leather on the seat and trim corners and then maybe add material to cover over the bolt.

The seat concern I would have is this...did the fender move you forward any ?

I recall trying my badlands seat on a fat Bob and the shock type and location seem different.

It seemed like the fender under the seat had a Hump that pushed everything forward.

I have been looking at side mount plates...but you bag is where i want mine, curved at the rear of the primary.

it did but only a little, however I was looking for that change being shorter. The fender and struts are shorter than the lrs and designed to work with fwd controls that a fat bob has.

If you don’t want a sporty aggressive feel/position and looking for more comfort then this probably ain’t the route you’d want to take. My RGS handles those duties instead.

I’m most likely gonna figure out a axle mount solution for the plate to keep my bag where it is and the clean fender look going

not looking at the comfort side, but rather the reach. i have forward controls ordered, but need the lower pushed back seat.
i have also looked at an axle mount option for the plate as well as the street bob side mount from the strut location...

I noticed a small vertical line on your back tire. Not sure what it is but thought I’d point it out in case it’s a cut or defect of some kind.

Thanks for looking out and good eye. I checked and it was just the seem between the garage floor mats along with a bunch of road salt/dust to make the impression of the floor on the tire.

i have looked at the same mount, i do dislike how the wiring will need to run up the swingarm...

i am leaning on making one that mounts at the rear pass peg mount, keeps the wiring alot closer and less noticeable

I just run black heat shrink over the wires before connecting the ends which allows you to hide the wire just behind the back of the swing arm up to the fender. Did it on my 06 Softail and you barely knew a wire was there, except for right behind the light/plate itself. Definitely need the light though to avoid any other reasons to get pulled over at night.

Anyway, good luck with the project. It’s a fun one for sure.

I have the same idea but with my Sport Glide. I need to run a tape measure at some critical spots and see how far off the last gen Softail custom / Night train rear fender is. It had a 200 tire so hopefully the dimensions are good for a 180 like the Sport Glide has.
