Default M8 Fat Bob 114 - Mid Controls?

Howdy Folks,

Been think about switching to mid controls for some time now.
While I have no major issues with how the Fat Bob is currently set up, I do miss my "sport" bike setup with mid controls.
Just wondering has anyone done the swap, I know HD makes kits for it but it is costly so I would really like to hear some opinions from people that have made the switch.

For Reference the two kits required are:
Part Number: 50502040
Part Number: 50502041

Many Thanks!

As someone with a 2020 Fat Bob with forwards, and a 2022 Low Rider ST with Mids, you might want to ride a Softail with Mids before making the jump. I'm still trying to get used to the Mids on the LRST. With the low seat height of the Fat Bob and LRSTs the mids feel a bit high for me and I'm only 5'8" with a 28" inseam.

You might also want to check out the FG Low Rider ST Owners group as a lot of guys swap the mids for forwards and I see new sets for sale there from time to time.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Yeah, having my knees too high up is something I am concerned about and would dread to find out after the expense and install time.

To be honest, I wish I could keep the forward controls but mount some mid pegs, so I could stand up to air out my butt every now and again.

Hopefully some more replies will be posted..

That's EXACTLY what I'd like to do too. Every time I encounter a gravel road, I wish like hell I could just stand up and get the 10,000% control increase that you get from standing on an adventure bike when things start to get squirrelly on the ground. And with my bad back, I'd LOVE to be able to properly lift up off the seat when going over a railroad track or a pothole or something, that would be heavenly instead of the jarring horror that it is now.

But, mids suck for long distance riding. I had mids on my last two bikes and I got hip pain after about half an hour on both of them. And 99% of the time I don't think about or want mids at all. But for that 1%, when I end up somewhere I wasn't expecting, it'd be nice to have that extra layer of control.

So far, I can't find anything that allows it. I think that the only way to accomplish it would be to buy a couple of mid-mount peg brackets, cut 'em about in half, and then weld them onto the existing forward mount brackets. Then mount a couple of passenger pegs on them so they can stay flipped up and out of the way. Might be a stupid idea, might not work at all, I don't know, but since the forward brackets and the mid brackets share the same mounting holes in the frame, that seems like the only way to accomplish it. And then I don't know if they'd be inconvenient or in the way or all sorts of other things...

I swapped to accessory mid controls because of Kruesi video
and the feeling of controlling the bike is night and day difference. I am 191cm height and yes, my knees are a little higher. But for long rides I stretch my legs and put my foots into the mustache crash bar. I would not switch back to forward controls because Fat Bob has a higher seat position

I flip out the passenger pegs on my Fat Bob before leaving...you can easily get your feet back there to stand up to take a rest or if some terrible railroad crossing is coming up.

Those won't fit unless you change the outer and inner primary covers.
