Wind Buff with HD Windsplitter 19 inch for Fat Boy
I have ordered a Windspiltter 19 Inch - what Ive got is massive wind buffering (?) on my Full Face helmet. Now its my plan to shorten the shield or to remove the curved end of the shield.
Any suggestions or complaints?
thanks.
I said that I'd never put a windshield on my 18 Fatboy. But decided that I'll add one before my next 2000 mile trip, which I'm hoping will be later this summer. I bought a used 19" Memphis Shades for only $50.. Now I'm on the lookout for a set of used brackets at a good price.
I contacted Dremel and they recommended using EZ476 cutting wheel and the EZ402 lock mandrel.

The kickback will create a vent between the nacelle and the bottom of the windshield which allows air to flow through it and fill the negative space behind the windshield.
The air doesn't really come back at you from the vent so you wont have to deal with wind pressure, but you will have the cooling air so you dont get overeheated from a lack of airflow.
It's very cheap to build too.
It's made of(1 Side):
Perch Clamp bolts(Really any bolt that can be threaded through the rubber dowel)
3Inch Mending Plates(I got mine at Ace Hardware)
2 Washers(large surface area.
Lock Washer
Nut.
I assembled mine in this order
Bolt Head, Mending Plate, Washer, Dowel, Washer, Lock Washer, Nut.
I had to ever so slightly drill out each hole to get the perch clamp bolt to thread through easily.
Yes you need the Lock Washer, I didnt have lock washers on first, and one of them shook loose the nut, and the other was loose. Lock Washer is a must.
It's a bit of a process of getting the windshield on, because you have to loosen the nacelle bolt to be able to swing the dowels into the lower windshield mount slot.
But once it's in there and the nacelle bolt is tightened down completely, they stay put and it makes the windshield much better. For me anyways.
I have the 15inch HD Windsplitter, and I'm 5ft10inch.

There's a range of shield heights that will cause maximum head buffeting just below the correct height for looking over. It looks like @FranBunnyFFXII went lower, but she might be getting bug spatter on the helmet visor - depends where you live. We got a lot of bugs around here in the glaciated pothole region of the U.S., so I wanted the precision look-over shield. I can confirm bugs go sailing over my head now!
