2023 LRST 117CI stock only 300+ miles, still breaking in, I connected my PV3 just to monitor engine and head temperature and on a 65F day, I was surprised to see the engine temps in the 315F at some point. I wonder what will the engine temp when it gets to the 90Fs or 100Fs?
Compared to my '21 RGS 114CI stock, I only see engine temps at about 290F on most host days.
I wonder if these 117 run hotter vs the 114? Anyone with some sort of engine temp share some info?

The difference between the RGS and the LRST could be because the LRST has a large oil cooler blocking the air flow to the heads and cylinders.
A huge factor in ET will be where you are riding it.
In the city my bike heats up to 315F plus fast in stop and go traffic. Traffic Jam Freeway, I can see 350F. Lane Splitting in the summer, I have to use very low RPM to get through some areas to make sure the bike doesn't heat up beyond 350 as well.
But 55mph on a country road, 255~260F.
Freeway at 65mph same 260F.
Riding twisty roads real fast like a street Rossi, 315F.
Wow good to know the the 300F+ that I am seeing seems to be normal i suppose, and yup, the large oil cooler of the LRST does block some air flow to the cylinder cooling fins and and looking at the area behind the oil cooler, a fan would not fit behind that spot on the softail.
I wonder if products like this Ultra Cool oil cooler will help?

I've been looking into some fans to put on that oil rad, and I'm sure a pair of low profiles from the PC market may work, but ofc they wont be water proof.
The ultracool would absolutely help. If I had a good place to mount one that wasn't on my crashbar or downtube I'd absolutely get one.
Oh btw, I forgot, my temps are with the DKCustom Outlaw(FLO) reusable steelmesh oil filter. It has a small cooling effect.
I just looked at that area behind the cooler and I do not see any way to install some sort of fan, just too small of a space and I bet we would have seen products from various manufactures if that was possible.
It looks like the Ultra Cool will have a future in my LRST, I installed the HD mustache engine guard and from the pictures I see online, it should fit, perhaps after the break-in period and after I do an oil change the at 1000 mile mark that will be the optimum time to install this oil cooler.

Reason: spell
After 50 years of riding HD's I quit worrying about it. I have a 113" Evo, a 110" Twin Cam, and a 114" M8, in 90°F heat measured with a Infared temp gun, none of them went more than 276°F. Can you imagine a Panhead or Shovelhead with cast iron cylinders in the same ambient temps, and oil not nearly as good as today?

I had a previous version of these on my Dyna Lowrider S several years ago and they worked fantastic. Also put on a Jagg fan assisted oil cooler and it did little to lower any temps. I plan on putting the Mighty Mites on my ST as well. I know it will have problems here in Phoenix because I've already been stranded once on the freeway in a traffic jam. I tried filtering through traffic but got to a point where I was stopped so I shut the bike off. It would not restart. Pushed to the side of the freeway(from the fast lane...traffic was barely moving) and waited 15 minutes until it would restart. That was after owning the bike 1 month. I was not happy to say the least.
I removed the horn and the usb plug in box that block a lot of the air that would otherwise be flowing through the motor. It seems to have helped a lot in keeping my bike cooler and it looks way better with how open it is
not sure if theyre still the same set up but this a 2019 FXLR
