Default Found the source of Engine Vibration

2018 HC 107. Always thought this bike vibrated too much, but never having a "B" motor before I didn't question it thinking it was the nature of the beast.

Turns out the two bolts (Item# 4) in diagram are missing, these bolts attach the motor bracket to the frame bracket. I slipped a sheet of paper between them to help you see it better. Called my local dealer, to explain and they asked for photos. They are ordering the bolts and told me to drop by when they're in and they will happily install them for me.... Makes you wonder what the mechanic looked at when the first service was done (previous owner and the owners manual has the dealer stamp saying the first service was done).

That goes to show you how dishonest and/or incompetent a lot of dealers' service departments are. This is an obvious and visible critical fastener that should have been seen and fixed during the 1K service. The owner probably paid a lot for the service but it wasn't done correctly.

So what other steps were skipped? Most likely quite a few. The service manager for wherever the bike had the 1K service done should be fired.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of engine mounting bolts being missing or loose on the Softails.

As for true service schedule work actually being performed…. I think you’re lucky to simply get your engine oil actually changed. 🙄

WTF?!?!

Back in '01 sitting at a stoplight on my brand new '01 Fat Boy I heard a metallic "ting". Looked down to the left and see one of the top motor mount bolts sitting on the ground, the other was still in the hole but rattling around since it was loose AF. IIRC, bike had about 500 miles on it at the time. I guess I should be glad that at least I had bolts.

Hard to capture with a photo but when you look at the bracket and receiving nuts on the motor bracket the paint hasn’t been disturbed or rubbed off. Makes me think the bolts were never there.

This is the second issue with the bike. I posted last year when I bought the bike how rigid the rear swing arm was. With the shock removed on a jack stand it took all my strength to lift the rear wheel and major resistance pushing it down. The swing arm bolt was over torqued. I backed it off and torqued to factory specs. Swing arm now moves freely with a very small drag

this was either a Monday or Friday manufactured bike. Lol

waiting to see what issue 3 is.

I remember that thread.
Yup Monday or Friday shortly after an azz eating for leaving a bolt loose ___ well something anyhow.
If the bolts are not snapped off in the bracket this one sounds like an easy fix.

Good luck WP

The allen head bolts with washers came in and I installed them. There is a reduction in vibration, but the buzz in the handgrips is still an annoyance for me, to others probably insignificant, but for me and my Raynaud's disease its a curse.

Test road a 2023 RK yesterday with only 1,000 miles on it. Got a mile down the road from the dealer and the bike went into limp mode and had to be picked up. The dealer thinks it's a throttle position sensor, waiting for an update.......dunno....could be an omen telling me to keep the HC....lol
