If its a dead spot when you hit the starter button then it may be the button, I hade to replace my button for that reason.

Maybe I misunderstood. Is the bike turning over and not starting or not turning over when this happens?

It's turning over fine just not starting it does start just takes 3-4 times hitting the starter button to start .
I called the dealer this morning their first thought it was the battery. I don't think that's what it is but I've been wrong before . Supposed to take it to the dealer 1st of next week .

Could be the battery. These newer bikes are very voltage sensitive. Should be easy for them to diagnose.

According to your test it probably isn't the battery... but there could be a bad ground or power connection. What you describe shouldn't be happening unless you live in Arizona maybe...

I live in Arkansas and it's been around 100° everyday with heat index around 120°. I would say it's heat related but it does it in the morning when it's in the 70's.

Having a similar issue. Occasionally the bike just doesn't crank enough to start. Battery reads 12.5 volts, lights come on, but cranking just stops after a second or so. And occasionally, it resets the time on the clock.

Had it yesterday where it had me briefly stranded. Tried about 10 times, it just wouldn't catch. I was in a store parking lot and started digging through my tools and dismantling the bike to check the wires and probably pull the battery and replace it. Wires were good. Pulling the battery on a new Softail is a bit of a PITA so before taking that last step, I tried again and the bike fired up.

Why? Only thing I can think of was heat. We're under an Excessive Heat Advisory here, and it sucks outside. I had parked in the shade and the whole process took 20 minutes or so; maybe it cooled down a little (or enough).

Got it home, parked in the garage, and ordered a new battery. On a lark I went out in the garage at night, and the bike fired up robustly.

Might be the heat, or maybe it's just time. Hoping the new battery gets it 100% reliable again.

Batteries even if new or Newer can fail.
While not common it does happen sometimes.

Worth checking out.

Yeah we have had the heat warnings here too. If mine only done that when it's hot I would definitely blame it on the heat . But it will do it when the temp is around 70°, morning temps here . And yes the battery is a pain in the *** to get out .
