Okay I was right when I said you striped these going in. That is very odd and I bet you they were too long and hitting something on the back or bottoming out and you tried to force it and it striped the head...or they were cross threaded.

If you have other projects that might have stripped/rusted hardware, an induction heater was the best tool I have had. I sold mine when I got out of old cars, theyre not cheap so unless you got another project that would have use.

I'd take off the footboard, cutoff wheel the head, and just use a typical left-handed screw out kit.

Galling can happen going in either direction.

I'm sure it could happen when threading in if the threads are a mess in the hole or on the bolt or both. But you should feel it going in that something was wrong and stop at some point before it was too late. Then chase the threads and start all over with some anti-seize. Now if you cleaned up everything before starting you would not get to this point.

Another thing if they were galled when coming out, he could have pulled all the threads out of the bolt hole and was actually rethreading when tightening the bolt to the point where it got too tight and failed.

My whole point is he stripped the head going in with the bolt. Everybody else was thinking he stripped it taking the bolt out.

You'll have to be careful removing the bolt, as it can snap off, then you'll need to drill it out. The good news is that you have plenty of room to drill it if needed. The way I see it is that there is room enough to get a pair of vise grips on the head, but be careful not to break it off or your back to drilling it out. BTW don't break off an easy out in the bolt if you have to go that way, they are hard to drill out if broken off. Take it to a shop if you think you don't have the skill to drill it.

Found those torx super tight too. My go to is an old *** heat gun and an impact driver.

The impact driver never failed me. Need to be a bit carful with the BFH, but it works every time.

Agreed. I bought a quality #27. I put it on a breaker bar and use a strictly on my Harleys
