Default Muffler Cat Removal

2018 heritage it's my understanding the cats are in the muffler. I know removing a cat from a head pipe is simple enough, but can you decat the mufflers? Is it a simple enough process? Thanks guys.

You can, and it is, but there is really no point. It will do nothing for you. The outlet pipe in your muffler... That 1" pipe, is crushed down in the muffler, and it's what goes into the muffler. Your cats are after the expansion to the ~3.5" can of the muffler... So, you have an inch, expanding to 3", going back to an inch, in a torturous path through the muffler, x2. Those cats don't restrict anything.... And those that have done what you are asking will say the same... No change.

If you have CATS ins the slip on mufflers and those get removed it mainly has an impact on difference in the tone.

We have a full video about the CAT that you may find helpful/interesting.

I was more curious about flow, less restriction, as opposed to tone.

After reading powermankw's reply comment sounds like it would be a waste of time with no benefit.

Somebody close to me has a like new set Reinhardt 500-1200C slip ons for sale. He said he finds them too loud, which is kind of scaring me. I got over loud pipes a long time ago.

That's the baffles after I cut mine out. They are restrictive, and slip on will open it up... But the cats are the size of the can and allow plenty of flow. That's all welded in, so you would just go in from header side, and ream out all the cat... But it's just not going to do much... Even if you got all of it... Which isn't guaranteed... I mean it's tight.

I would never think slip on would do much, but after going through everything I did with cutting out baffles... Of yes, it does really open up and M8s really benefit. If you think they are too loud... You can see if the baffle has a removable insert and if you can wrap with fiberglass to quiet down... Or just see if you can throw them on and see for yourself.
