I have not found any in-dash maps better than my Garmin units. I have a RV Garmin in addition to my Zumo XT for my motorcycle. Wife gets a new GPS from the refurbished shop every 3-4 years for her car. I damn sure would not pay extra for the in-dash.
So if I buy this AI Box and plug it in to the C Plug in the dash my maps will come up on my screen? I would like navigation to play in the background, but I would not want it to mess with my rpms and speedometer

CarPlay (and assume AA) changes layout where it takes 3/4 (?) of the screen on the right and remaining part of the screen is for the gauges (speedo, tach, fuel level and few others). Embedded navigation can be in-between gauges for cruiser mode or similarly take 3/4 (?) of the screen on the right for touring mode, haven't tried it in sport mode.
Just something to think about. I bought the map update for my 2018 last year and it doesn't reflect road changes in my area that have been in-place for almost 3 years. The built-in NAV is good for long established highways and such, but will never keep up with internet based maps like Waze, Google, or Apple.
On the other hand, on the 24+ embedded nav I've had multiple updated state maps that install wirelessly in my garage. New roads show up fairly quickly. As with any nav system it's not perfect.

My Garmin XT will also auto update via WiFi. I am always leery of a problem during an automatic update and then I do not have a GPS ready for when I desire it. So I shut the auto update feature off.
When the AI Box is connected do you need a headset? Can you run your hand controls? I just want to plug the AI Box in and have Navigation. This at $140 better than spending the $400 for Harleys embedded Navigation?
I paid to have the HD Nav initiated even though I use Apple CarPlay for most point A to Point B directions. I still prefer doing my longer touring routes on BaseCamp and exporting to the HD Nav. No worries about being out of cell phone service and I find my routes are much easier to customize/revise using BaseCamp. I looked at it as a one time fee as I'll always have the HD maps, just won't get the map updates or weather after 3 years. No big deal IMHO.
