Default Embedded navigation

I am considering enabling the embedded navigation on my Road Glide.
I am using CarPlay now and am pleased with it. Any opinions from those that have the navigation? Is it better than CarPlay? Worth the $350?
Let me know your experience with it and your likes and dislikes.

No reason to do anything with the bikes NAV if you don't like it don't use it.

For point to point car play and android auto work. But for other features the bike system works well. If you don't mind being tied to a cell phone that tracts your every move and sells that data . Car Play or AA will work fine except in place with no cell service.

Definitely NOT better than Google/Apple Maps. I bought it and regret it. Colors are bad, it's really buggy when you stop the bike (navigation sometimes resets and other issues), rain drops move the map, etc. I'll probably end up going back to a Garmin Zumo because I'm an Android Phone guy.

Bill,
I have the embedded maps on my bike, if I was to do it again I wouldn’t purchase the map. I use CarPlay with Waze, Google maps and MyRoute app for all the routes I create.

Why I don’t use the embedded map anymore:
1 - I use CarPlay with custom routes I make in MyRoute App and it works great.
2 - As mentioned the colors are very dark which doesn’t allow you to see some of the smaller roads.
3 - The map doesn’t let you skip waypoints
4 - It didn’t have zoom but the new update will add the zoom feature.
5 - Apple CarPlay has become very stable now.

Just my opinion
Steve

I am still using both. I use Carplay 99% of the time. Waze is the killer application. I have found myself in places with no cell signal. Lolo pass is a great example. The good news, hard to get lost there! Stay on the road and you end up in a populated area.. however, it is a reminder that we don't get cell signal everywhere. I have tried downloading maps on various IOS and Android compatible apps. This process of using off line maps seems a bit inconsistent when cell signal isn't working.
I keep a Garmin on my off road motorcycles for the same reason.

If you wander into areas without a cell signal, some sort of map that is not dependent on a cell signal may be worth having.

I use both android auto and the onboard nav.
AA with google maps works great for guided routes when you want to get from point A to point B, just select the 2 points and follow the directions.
If I have a particular route I want to setup and follow I find the HD Nav and ride planner works much better then AA.
Also I'm running the twisty roads the HD Nav gives a real good indication of the curves ahead.
Especially now that you can easily change the scale.

I have embedded maps and I would still choose CarPlay with google maps to be able to route on the fly. I haven’t found a way to choose a destination while in motion on the embedded nav

I didn’t realize HD charges now to enable embedded navigation. If you know you will always be in areas will cell coverage, and/or can download all the maps you need…I’d stick with Apple play. That way you also get traffic information when you have cell coverage, and is always up to date.

I just hate those grayed out icons and when you're spending almost $30k what's an extra $300, right
