Seems everyone is fairly hot on shotgun shocks but as I understand they wont fit a 2012 fatboy as the anti lock brake system sits where the compressor would sit on earlier models.
So are the only options worth looking at progressive and sas?
Or could I run the shotgun shocks without the on the fly adjustment to ride .... but sort of defeats purpose.
I am not sure on where the compressor for the Progressive mounts. They offer the compressor as optional meaning you can fill it with a compressor and leave it or if you want to be able to raise and lower it while you ride or as you park etc you will need the compressor. The SAS will work as the compressor is inside the shock body. I just picked one up for testing today. I plan on installing it as soon as I get a chance to get away and get it done.
It is a very solid and robust looking piece of machinery. I have read the instructions and the isntall looks simple enough as well. I have to pick up some electrical connectors for wiring the switch and such as it did not come with any.
I will be providing a full report on on the isntall and operation of the unit functionally ocne the isntall ahs been done. I will be comparing it to the Shotgun Shock as well. If there were only more hours in teh day I could get it done today. Stay tuned.
I will wait until you make the comparison as that would be an interesting review. As part of that could you also comment on whether I could customise the shotgun to operate without the compressor, similar to the progressive. I imagine I can but I am not sure whats involved here.
Customizing the shotgun to work without the compressor can probably be done, but it might be easier to mount the compressor in a solo saddlebag or something. I know I had otehrs askinga bout this sidebag option but i am not sure if anyone has done it yet.
Ok you have got me thinking now....just an idea but would it would fit in the standard harley tool box? I am not sure on two parts:
1. sizing
2. ventilation (but I am guessing this isnt an issue for the short time it runs).
Really want this mod. Surely JD needs to find a solution quick as this must be an issue on sales of shotgun for 2012 fatboys and later going forward???
I have already been asked this and yes the compressor would fit in a toolbox or side saddlebag. The consideration is that the air line would need to run out of the bag which would make the air line more susceptible to wear than it is in the stock mounting position. SAS is the best choice with ABS. I installed one and it works great. A bit different than Shotgun but a great system nonetheless.
