Default iPod locking up

I've got the HDPDPLUS installed and have been using it with a shuffle on my handle bars. I decided I would resurrect one of my old big dial type iPods and use it instead since it holds a lot more music, and I run it locked so I don't use the controls anyway. So I opened the faring and Velcroed it ontop ipof my amp.

Problem is the iPod keeps locking up or freezing. If I shut the bike off, sometimes it un freezes but then will only play a few songs before freezing again.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it just the iPod? Or can this older type not handle the vibration of the bike?

Anyone? Bueller?

The older iPods can't handle the vibration. You need one with a solid state drive.

I have used the older Ipod with a hard drive, you need to put in a padded case and isolate it from as much vibration as possible. I had an old camera case lying around that worked really well.

ERRONEOUS !! I've had a 120gb IPOD CLASSIC on my bike, longer than anyone, ( for 6 summers ) , with no incident.

I would hook it up to ITUNES and check for a firmware update on the IPOD !

Good Luck and let us know how it goes !!!

This would be my first assumption as well. Check ebay, you can find older gen nanos and the like for serious bargains.

Well, I will rephrase my comment to the OP then...

It's your iPod that is causing you trouble. I have an older iPod that does not work well on the bike, and several friends have had the same result on their bikes as well. I've never had this problem with a solid state drive. I have seen various posts (don't remember if it was on this forum or not) were people have had similar results with their older units as well. So it looks like you need to find a magic case or an update on something that is most likely not supported any longer by Apple.
