Exactly. Harley Davidson is very good at building motorcycles. Not sound systems.

They are GREAT at marketing.

I hope they are good at building motorcycles. I am a owner of 5 months. So far I like it but I've been on ride after ride in the past with HD owners and witnessed mufflers falling off, oil drips, shifter pegs falling off (bike was few months old), and on and on. Many many hours waiting on them to make repairs so we could get back on the road. I've been to dealers where the line at parts was so long, my friends weren't willing to wait and "limped along" to try again later.

But...so far, I'm a happy owner.

I was at one dealer where they were steering me away from the Boom Audio Stage I upgrade and talking to me about a 3rd party system that others have stated here on the forum is also junk.

It's hard to invest in audio systems when I cant hear it first.

Outstanding at marketing! All the guys here on the audio forum have been where you are now. There is a wealth of knowledge right here on this forum as mduncan said they will let you know in a heartbeat what is good and what sucks. Most of the recommendations are born from the collective experience of the guys here.

We have done the homework and we know what works at 75 Mph going down the highway and what does not. All we are saying is the historically the BOOM system does not have a good track record on the forum.

There are many other options that put the boom stuff to shame. My recommendation to you is to forget about the Boom stuff and start looking at the Biketronics products for your bike. There is a group buy going on in the next few days with the biketronics products. Perfect timing for guys looking to upgrade such as yourself. Here's a link to the group buy. If you have questions we will be more than happy to answer. Ask away!

Well the good thing about the folks that have been on this forum for a while is no one is trying to sell you anything, and many have tried plenty of set-ups out and can provide you with solid advice. You’ll find a thread by AAWAV where folks were sending him amps to get tested/reviewed...so it’s one of “us” your getting info from not a vendor. Same as Gannicus and Ultranutz, these guys have listened to, heard, plenty of speaker and amp combos.

HD dealerships, well their trying to sell you something AND charge you for install.

I would think the price alone for a 6.5 speaker system from Boom would deter most buyers?

I have 6.5 speakers in my lowers and 7.1 in my fairing, I promise you the 7.1" speaker sounds and hits much better.

And with prices like this
1 each 76000277A amplifier $449.95
1 each 76000278 kit - amp w/fairing mount $599.95
1 each 76000505 kit - speaker enclosure $249.95
1 each 76000524 kit - speakers for fairing $329.95
1 each 76000526 kit - speakers for tour pak $329.95
1 each 76000585 kit - rear amp install $249.95
total $2209.70

and now your saying add an additional 5 1/2 hours labor to that? That sounds exactly like something the dealer would try to sell you, but not something most of us would recommend here on a forum where we try to help each other out.
In the end its your money.....

I've not dug into it myself but that sounds excessive.

I've seen others advertising free install with purchase of the parts. Unfortunately, none close enough for me to use.

Anybody had this work done at a HD dealer?
That estimate is definitely in the ballpark. One of my local dealers installed the system on a bike in their showroom and they said it took close to 6 hours. It seems they have to do a fair amount of teardown to install all of the components.

to OP / Timurray...

DO NOT BUY THE BOOM, not matter what...
Give us you intended budget as well as your bike and year and we will provide you with the "right" solution...
again, it might look intimidating when you put the stuff on the table, but it is not that hard to install (and actually fun -- if you are into "tinkering").
