Thanks for the influence on soldering! I wish I would've done this years ago while tinkering with car stereos in high school. Stopped at harbor freight this evening and picked up a soldering iron, solder, heat shrink and the helping hand total was $12. I soldered the pbr300x2 cables back together and also soldered my speaker wires as well. SOLID CONNECTION and no need to worry about anything, first time soldering and will use this from here on out.
Checked ups tracking number and radio is suppose to arrive thursday, pending weather Set the BT1005 dial and pretty much ready to soldering my remaining wires , have to say I'm excited to solder the wiring.
Glad to help, soldering is the best way to connect the wires on a bike that vibrates, nice solid connections that won't come apart, and the heat shrink gives it that finished professional look.

agreed its the way to go, VERY SIMPLE to do as well. Just never tried it before and its pretty much cheaper. My stereo should be arriving tomorrow pending the weather Read up on the bt1005 and the kdc798 , pretty sure I have a good understanding of everything. Install should be simple will need to set the gain on amp again then play with new head unit

Yeah, its straight forward....Instuctions have pictures and make sure have the letter settings match your HU, other than that, read up on what level you want the AVC to be, general public around 1-2. Or have it off. Good luck and by God, post some pix...Wee likey pix here...
new stereo arrived this evening, went ahead and put it in. Its mounted with 3 of 4 bolts, will try to get the 4th one tomorrow VERY irritating. Unit looks great with the metra kit. The stock head unit bezel isn't snapping into place 100% yet.
Sounds great! Bluetooth is sweet! and plenty of features which I need to play with still. I'll need new RCA cables the ones are TOO LONG. The bt1005 isn't working all my connections were solder. Checked everything twice and my wiring is correct, the stereo works perfectly fine just no hand controls. Any advice on this before contacting Bill at bike tronics?
side pic ,
polyfil
front , not finished mounting amp or bundling wires
Metra kit, the radio bezel was difficult to place on & still alittle loose I think will need to play with it
What leads did you solder? Should only be the speaker wires to the Amp. Wires from the radio are pluged directly into the BT1005X but you must have an older model. That could be the problem.
Interested to see if you find a solution on the trim bezel. When I helped my buddy put a Kenwood M312BT unit in his bike with the Metra kit we weren't able to get the bezel to stay on either.

Parts of the bezel does snap in but its still a tad loose. I'll probably snap in what I can and use double side adhesive to hold the rest in place. It looks good both ways but I think I prefer to have the bezel in place.
The bt1005 is the older model, I spoke with Bill and he is sending a replacement not sure if itll be the 1005 or 1005x, should arrive early next week.
Rca cables should I just leave them in or go with shorter ones. Does it make a difference, if not I'll leave them and tie them into place.
Good choice , my second only because Sony price warranty . One thing is that unit is now replaced with a newer unit on Kenwood web site, not a big thing. Really think big brands all are good units.

Well you have a replacement BT1005X coming and my new PBR300X2 came without the two plug in connectors. Sending me some but now I have to wait another week.
