In process of removing my stock HU to send it off to Iron Cross for the Pre-Amp outputs and Bluetooth.. Couple of questions:
I got the 4 bolts out and pulled the HU out, but there is one cable on the very bottom right of the radio (When looking at it from behind) which may be an antenna cable? How the heck does it come out? If I pull on it fairly hard it starts to come out about 1/4 inch but it seems like something else needs be done? Or do I just need to pull harder? Don't want to break anything! Hopefully I haven't already.. does it unscrew?
Also, is there ANY easy way to access those 4 radio bolts? I was able to get them out but what a pain.. Its going to be worse trying to get them back in.. is there a trick I am missing?
No that radio is a pita to get the bolts in a little trick I learned on mine same bike 2013 Limited put the 2 front screws in first tighten only 1/2 way then you can wiggle the radio a little up and down to get the 2 back screws in.
Yes that is the antenna wire just grab it as close to the back of the radio as possible and pull it straight out it will come out just don't pull it at an angle.
Well I think I broke it.. wired pulled out and left the black plastic part in there.. hopefully Iron Cross will have mercy and not charge me too much for that.. I swear I have the worst luck with this ****.
Sorry to see that, maybe bad install from factory.
Yes that is the antenna mine just pulled right out, not much effort at all.
You will have to crimp on a new antenna plug when you get the radio back.
Maybe Iron Cross can send a new plug along for a minimal charge.
Now that your radio is out have you thought about an aftermarket HU, that is why I pulled mine out for the bluetooth and USB port.
I didn't use the cb or intercom anyways.
Hope your reinstall goes smoother than the uninstall.
I just looked at my radio and the back should just have the hole that is flush with the back of the radio housing, it looks as if the whole metal end of the plug assembly is wedged into the hole somehow, that should all have come out.
Yeah...its a pain in the @$$. I used the long Allen wrenches with the ball end. That way you can put them at the angle you need. You can get them nearly anywhere that has a good tool supply, including Leows.
Well its all boxed up and ready to ship to Iron Cross.. I'm traveling for the next 2 weeks so I figure its a good time to send it off.. Hopefully they can fix my antenna mess.. If its happened to me I'm sure there are 100 other people that have had it happen as well.
